Marvel Studios has issued out a press release stating that principal photography has started for Iron Man 3 and included a photo from the set. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios\u2019 release \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers<\/a><\/strong>,\u201d production on the highly anticipated film \u201cIron Man 3,\u201d<\/strong> directed by Shane Black, has commenced production in Wilmington, North Carolina. The production schedule will also include locations in Raleigh\/Durham, North Carolina, Miami, Florida and China.<\/p>\n

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, \u201cIron Man 3\u201d<\/strong> returns Robert Downey Jr.<\/strong> (\u201cIron Man,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers\u201d) as the iconic Super Hero character Tony Stark\/Iron Man along with Gwyneth Paltrow <\/strong>(\u201cIron Man,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2,\u201d) as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle<\/strong> (\u201cIron Man 2\u201d) as James \u201cRhodey\u201d Rhodes and Jon Favreau<\/strong> (\u201cIron Man,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2\u201d) as Happy Hogan. Set for release in the U.S. on May 3, 2013, Marvel\u2019s \u201cIron Man 3\u201d marks the second feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cIron Man 3\u201d continues the epic, big-screen adventures of the world\u2019s favorite billionaire inventor\/Super Hero, Tony Stark aka \u201cIron Man.\u201d Marvel Studios\u2019 President Kevin Feige<\/strong> is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Jon Favreau, Louis D\u2019Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard<\/strong> and Dan Mintz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The creative production team on the film includes two-time Oscar\u00ae-winning director of photography John Toll<\/strong>, ASC (\u201cBraveheart,\u201d \u201cLegends of the Fall\u201d), production designer Bill Brzeski <\/strong>(\u201cThe Hangover,\u201d \u201cDue Date\u201d), editors Jeffrey Ford<\/strong>, A.C.E. (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger\u201d) and Peter S. Elliot<\/strong> (\u201cFantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer\u201d), and costume designer Louise Frogley<\/strong> (\u201cQuantum of Solace,\u201d \u201cContagion\u201d).<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios most recently produced the critically acclaimed \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which is currently in release, continues to shatter box office records and is The Walt Disney Studios\u2019 highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studios\u2019 fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with \u201cThor<\/strong>,\u201d starring Chris Hemsworth<\/strong>, and \u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger<\/strong>,\u201d starring Chris Evans<\/strong>. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 \u201cIron Man 2<\/strong>,\u201d starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson<\/strong> and Mickey Rourke<\/strong>, took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies \u201cIron Man<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cThe Incredible Hulk<\/strong>.\u201d \u201cIron Man,\u201d in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero\u2019s powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released \u201cThe Incredible Hulk,\u201d marking its second number one opener of that summer.<\/p>\n
