Producer Tommy Oliver<\/strong> (Kinyarwanda) has recently wrapped production on his semi-autobiographical directorial debut, a drama entitled 1982<\/strong>. Starring Hill Harper<\/strong> (CSI: NY, The Skulls, He Got Game), Sharon Leal<\/strong> (Dream Girls, Why Did I Get Married), Ruby Dee <\/strong>(American Gangster, Do the Right Thing), and Wayne Brady <\/strong>(The Wayne Brady Show), 1982 is set in Philadelphia during the onset of the crack epidemic and follows a father\u2019s struggle to wean his wife off of her addiction, while trying to protect their ten year old daughter from the painful truth.<\/p>\n

Tommy Oliver<\/strong>, producer on the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winning film Kinyarwanda<\/strong>, serves as writer, director, and producer of 1982. Executive Producers are Hill Harper and Heather Rae<\/strong>, whose previous producer credits include Frozen River<\/strong> and The Dry Land<\/strong>. Black Squirrel Films and Confluential Films, a new venture between Oliver and Harper, are the production companies.<\/p>\n

1982 also stars La La Anthony<\/strong> (Think Like a Man), Elise Neal<\/strong> (Hustle & Flow), Bokeem Woodbine <\/strong>(Total Recall), Omar Benson Miller<\/strong> (8 Mile), and Quinton Aaron (The Blind Side).<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we didn\u2019t have much in the way of time or money, we made up for it in spades with passion and support, which is pretty easy to do when you get to work with the likes of the legendary Ms. Ruby Dee,\u201d said Oliver about the production experience.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, if submitted on time, the film can make next year’s Sundance Film Festival and be ready for theatrical release in 2013.<\/p>\n
