Last night, Blackfilm.com<\/strong> attended the NY premiere of Lifetime TV’s ‘Steel Magnolias’<\/a> <\/strong>at the Paris Theater. The cast in attendance included director Kenny Leon<\/strong>, producer Neil Meron, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye, Condola Rashad, Tory Kittles<\/strong>, and Justin Martin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Some of the notables who came out to support were Executive VP programming of Lifetime Networks Rob Sharenow, Ahmad Rashad<\/strong>, Project Runway contestant Kimberly Goldson, Andre Holland, Keri Hilson, Jamie Cepero<\/strong>, ‘Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller<\/strong>, actor Leslie Odom<\/strong>, New York Liberty basketball player Cappie Pondexter<\/strong>, and Sony Pictures SVP DeVon Franklin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The highly anticipated Lifetime Original Movie is set to debut Sunday, October 7 at 9pm ET\/PT on Lifetime.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Queen Latifah stars in and executive produces the film, a television adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, reuniting her with producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, from the Oscar and Golden Globe winning Chicago and Hairspray.<\/p>\n

Directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), the film will feature Queen Latifah<\/strong> taking on the role of \u2018M\u2019Lynn\u2019 and starring alongside Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad<\/strong> as \u2018Clairee,\u2019 Independent Spirit Award nominee Adepero Oduye<\/strong> as \u2018Annelle,\u2019 Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad<\/strong> as \u2018Shelby,\u2019 with Grammy winner Jill Scott<\/strong> as \u2018Truvy\u2019 and Golden Globe and multiple Emmy(R)- winner Alfre Woodard<\/strong> as \u2018Ouiser.\u2019<\/p>\n

In an updated contemporary version of the beloved stage play and 1989 film, Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana. Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy\u2019s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children \u2013 and hair and nails \u2013 all the important topics that truly unite and celebrate women.
