The Pan African Film Festival <\/strong>(PAFF) tapped the lovely-and-talented actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield<\/strong> to serve as its 2013 celebrity host <\/strong>for its 21st annual film festival. PAFF is set to take place at the new Rave Cinemas Baldwin Hills 15 at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles. It will kick off festivities with a star-studded Opening Night Gala on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Rave Cinemas Baldwin Hills 15 theatre at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. (The theatre is situated on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Marlton Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard)<\/p>\n

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Whitfield is a veteran actress of television and film. She\u2019s also a festival favorite who\u2019s delighted audiences with her stirring portrayal of Maye in the critically-acclaimed film, \u201cI Will Follow,<\/strong>\u201d the directorial debut of award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay<\/strong>. Last year, she appeared in the cutting-edge, hip hop-infused teen flick, \u201cWe the Party,\u201d<\/strong> directed by Mario Van Peebles<\/strong>. Interestingly, Whitfield got her big acting break in \u201cPosse,\u201d<\/strong> directed by Peebles, and starring opposite Billy Zane<\/strong> and Blair Underwood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Appearing in more than 20 films, Whitfield has worked along side some of the industry\u2019s leading men, including award-winning actors Denzel Washington<\/strong> in \u201cAntwone Fisher,\u201d <\/strong>and Will Smith<\/strong> in \u201cI Am Legend,\u201d<\/strong> as well as Laurence Fishburne <\/strong>in \u201cBiker Boyz\u201d<\/strong> and Keenan Ivory Wayans<\/strong> in \u201cA Low Down Dirty Shame.\u201d<\/strong> Other film credits include \u201cBlack Dynamite\u201d <\/strong>and \u201cAnacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 just to name a few.<\/p>\n

On television, Whitfield recently wrapped shooting a starring role in the Lifetime pilot, \u201cThe Secret Lives of Wives.\u201d <\/strong>She also stars in the film, \u201cPastor Brown,\u2019 <\/strong>which is set to premiere on Lifetime in February, as part of its Black History Month offerings. Audiences know and love Whitfield as the character, Dr. Blake, on Syfy\u2019s hit show, \u201cEureka.\u201d<\/strong> In 2011, she received an NAACP Image Award nomination for \u201cOutstanding Actress in a Comedy Series\u201d for her work on the show. Other television credits include \u201cCriminal Minds,\u201d \u201cBones,\u201d \u201cHouse\u201d and \u201cCSI: Miami.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
