The musical adaptation of “Sleepless in Seattle”<\/strong> has tapped a new director, Sheldon Epps<\/strong>, and set the date for its world premiere run this spring at the Pasadena Playhouse, of which Epps is a.d.<\/p>\n

The previous director attached to the project was Lonny Price<\/strong> (“110 in the Shade”), who was himself a replacement for Joel Zwick<\/strong>. Price drops out due to conflicts in his sked, according to reps for the Playhouse.<\/p>\n

Epps, whose stage work includes the national tour of “Purlie<\/strong>” and an Encores! production of the same tuner in 2005, will be one of the collaborators involved in a developmental workshop of the show now set to take place in early March. He’ll work with a previously announced creative team including book writer Jeff Arch (who is credited on the 1993 film as the writer of the story and a co-writer of the script), composer Ben Toth (“Liberal Arts”) and lyricist Sam Forman<\/strong> (“House of Cards”).<\/p>\n

Storyline of the tuner follows the plot of the the Columbia Pictures romantic comedy about a lonely widower in Seattle and the Baltimore woman who falls for him based solely on his call to a radio talk show.<\/p>\n

Production, shepherded by commercial producer David Shor, has had its eye on Broadway since inception. Neither casting nor future plans for the title have yet been set, but the Pasadena bow will run May 24-June 23 with a press opening set for June 2.<\/p>\n
