Ironside<\/strong> is mounting a comeback. NBC has given a pilot order to a reboot of the 1967 detective drama Ironside to star Blair Underwood. The new Ironside, written by <strong>Mike Caleo<\/strong> and produced by Universal TV, centers on an acerbic, sarcastic detective in a wheelchair (Underwood) who pushes and prods his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Ironside-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-34784\" title=\"Ironside logo\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 225'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Ironside-logo-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project originally had <strong>David Semel<\/strong> attached to direct. He is no longer directing \u2014 he just signed on to direct\/executive produce CBS\u2019 Intelligence \u2013 but he remains an executive producer alongside Caleo, <strong>Teri Weinberg <\/strong>of Yellow Brick Road, John Davis and Jon Fox.<\/p>\n<p>NBC\u2019s pickup hinged on Underwood playing the lead. The LA Law alum\u2019s casting stems from a development\/talent holding deal he signed with Universal TV in August. He is with ICM Partners and Thruline. The original Ironside series, from Universal TV, ran on NBC from 1967 to 1975 with <strong>Raymond Burr<\/strong> as the paralyzed Chief of Detectives.<\/p>\n<p>Underwood, who recently played the lead role of Stanley in the Broadway revival of <strong>A Streetcar Named Desire<\/strong>, was last seen on TV playing United States President Elias Martinez in the NBC drama series<strong> The Event<\/strong> in 2010.
