While promoting her latest film, ‘Beautiful Creatures<\/strong>,’<\/a> Academy Award nominee Viola Davis<\/strong> spoke to Collider.com<\/a><\/strong> about not wearing a wig for this film, her other upcoming projects, including playing Terrence Howard<\/strong>‘s wife in ‘Prisoners,<\/strong>‘ and working with Harrison Ford<\/strong> in ‘Ender’s Game.’<\/strong><\/p>\n

A supernatural love story set in the South, \u201cBeautiful Creatures\u201d tells the tale of two star-crossed lovers: Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), a young man longing to escape his small town, and Lena (Alice Englert), a mysterious new girl. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Why was this attractive to you? Why did you want to be in this movie?<\/strong><\/p>\n

VIOLA DAVIS:<\/strong> It was attractive to me because, at first, I thought that she was just a regular woman, and then you peeled away the scars, and her being the keeper of this library, and her being able to channel spirits, and I liked that depth of character without beating someone over the head with it. It was that mysterious part of her. I like creating a rich inner life of a character because I sometimes feel like everybody wants to see everything played out on screen, in a way that\u2019s very dramatic. I like an interesting inner life. I think it\u2019s harder to play. I think it\u2019s more challenging. That was the case with Amma. I loved it.<\/p>\n

Was it liberating not to have to wear a wig for this character?<\/strong><\/p>\n

DAVIS:<\/strong> Yes, absolutely! The other day, I had to do a video thing and because I\u2019m wearing my hair in this movie I\u2019m doing now (Prisoners), I got a color job that fried my hair, so I was letting it rest. I braided it and put on a wig, for the first time in awhile, and I was like, \u201cAh!\u201d Listen, I love my wigs. My daughter goes to my drawer and says, \u201cMommy, you wanna wear your wig?\u201d But suddenly, it felt odd, in a way. Suddenly, it felt like I wasn\u2019t being who I was. I\u2019m still going to wear my wig, but I just think it\u2019s interesting, at this time period, for me to just use it as an enhancement and not a crutch. That\u2019s as much as I can say about it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Which is the film that you\u2019re working on now?<\/strong><\/p>\n

DAVIS:<\/strong> I\u2019m working on Prisoners with Denis Villeneuve. He\u2019s out of Quebec. He\u2019s the French director who did Incendies. He\u2019s fantastic. I\u2019m working with Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Maria Bello, and Terrence Howard is playing my husband. It\u2019s a great story. It\u2019s about these two young girls go missing \u2013 my young girl and Maria Bello and Hugh Jackman\u2019s young girl \u2013 and it\u2019s about us searching for who took them and taking justice into our own hands. When does it become right or wrong? We\u2019re exploring the humanity of the good side of justice and the bad side of justice. It\u2019s beautiful because I think it\u2019s just so relevant, in this day and age of child abductions, killings, sexual assaults and everything. You feel the rage. Even if it\u2019s not your child, you feel that sense of wanting to get vindication. So, what lengths would you go to? This movie explores that, and it\u2019s good. I think it\u2019s going to be good. I really do. It\u2019s a wonderful script.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Davis also spoke her role in ‘Ender’s Game,’ which was directed by Tsotsi’s Gavin Hood and co-starring Harrison Ford.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You also recently did Ender\u2019s Game, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n

DAVIS:<\/strong> I did Ender\u2019s Game. People are really excited about that one. Harrison Ford. And I would stare at him all the time and my husband said, \u201cYou gotta stop doing that! You gotta just talk to people! I talk to people! You don\u2019t talk to anybody!\u201d And I said, \u201cI know, but it\u2019s Harrison Ford!\u201d And he said, \u201cI don\u2019t care! Just talk to him!\u201d But, I would just stare at him. He said, \u201cHow you doing, Viola? You know, I would have flown you out here with your daughter, when your daughter was sick. You could have just asked me.\u201d And I thought, \u201cI could have?!\u201d And then, he\u2019d tell really racy jokes, and I would think, \u201cHarrison Ford is telling me a joke!\u201d And then, I\u2019d forget to laugh! He\u2019s awesome! And Gavin Hood, who did what I would put in the top three greatest foreign films of all time, Tsotsi, which means \u201cthug\u201d in Afrikaans, is the director. He\u2019s tough and he\u2019s specific, and I think that it\u2019s going to be great. What a moving story. And once again, it\u2019s relevant. It\u2019s about training these young kids to be soldiers and to kill, and what are the after effects of that? It\u2019s wonderful.<\/p>\n
