She was the 2012 winner of the GMC (now called Up) Faith and Family Screenplay Competition. Directed by <strong>Roger M. Bobb<\/strong>, In The Meantime stars <strong>Kali Hawk, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Terri J. Vaughn, Thomas Mikal Ford, Rodney Perry, David Mann, Tamela Mann<\/strong> and singer <strong>Musiq Soulchild<\/strong>, who\u2019s making his film debut.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival Award Presentation opened out the top of the evening with a star studded red carpet event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/47-A-Different-Tree-director-Steven-Caple-Jr..jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-41220\" title=\"47 -  A Different Tree director Steven Caple Jr.\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 199'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/47-A-Different-Tree-director-Steven-Caple-Jr.-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The HBO Short Film Award was given to <strong>\u2018A Different Tree,\u2019 <\/strong>which was directed by <strong>Steven Caple Jr. <\/strong>and written by Victoria Rose. The $10,000 grand prize award was presented by <strong>Dennis Williams<\/strong>, Vice President, Cultural and Social Responsibility of HBO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA Different Tree\u201d <\/strong>is about an eight year old girl\u2019s journey to connect with her absent father and fill out a class-assigned family tree. When Pearl Washington (Ashley) receives a family tree assignment at school, she must face the pain of having grown up without a father, her resentment towards her mother, Jada (<strong>Tracie Thoms<\/strong>), and her jealousy of best friend, Mia. The award was presented by <strong>Kendra Carter<\/strong>, Director of Talent Diversity Initiatives, NBC Universal Casting.<\/p>\n<p>Star Project is an international acting competition for emerging multicultural artists. The award was presented by a CNN  spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p>Through the heart and soul of funeral director Isaiah Owens, the beauty and grace of African-American funerals are miraculously brought to life in <em>HOMEGOINGS<\/em>, honoring a rich palette of tradition, history and celebration. Each of the young creatives competed for the opportunity to showcase  their work to the Interactive One audience. Three finalists were selected through online voting and had the opportunity to screen their webisode during ABFF. The winner, presented by <strong>Smokey D. Fontaine<\/strong>, the Chief Content Officer of Interactive One, was <strong>RomieLoverFriends<\/strong>, created by the Black &amp; Sexy TV team<strong> Dennis Dortch<\/strong> and <strong>Numa Perrier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Executive produced by\u00a0<strong>Issa Rae<\/strong> (aka<strong> <em>Awkward Black Girl<\/em><\/strong>) via her <strong>Issa Rae Productions, <\/strong>the series stars<strong> <\/strong><strong>Shayla Hale<\/strong> and <strong>Andra Fuller, <\/strong>as the main characters Tamiko and Jayson. The two share an apartment and never  know when they will end up sharing a bed! Though Tamiko is single, she  obviously cannot help the attraction she has for Jayson. To start the  story off, the two somehow end up in bed together. The Prize includes $5000 sponsored by Marriot.<\/p>\n<p>Hampton plays Kalindra Stepney (Kal), an emerging spoken-word poetess, someone who  willingly speaks her thoughts, but she\u2019s an artist who has yet to find  her voice. A native of California, Kal has dreams of taking her poems to  New York and the infamous Nuyorican stage.
