Here’s a clip from the upcoming film, ‘Big Words,’ <\/strong>which is the directorial debut of former Entertainment Weekly reporter Neil Drumming<\/strong>. The film stars Dorian Missick<\/strong> (\u201cSouthland\u201d) as the title character, along with Gbenga Akinnagbe<\/strong> (\u201cThe Wire\u201d), Zachary Booth<\/strong> (\u2018Keep The Lights On\u201d), Yaya Alafia<\/strong> (\u201cThe Kids Are All Right\u2019) with Darien Sills-Evans<\/strong> and rapper Jean Grae<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film will be distributed by ARRAY, the multi-platform distribution label of African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM).<\/p>\n

Fifteen years after their break up, the hip hop trio once known as The DLP find themselves at a crossroads. John, once known as \u201cBig Words\u201d for his poetic, lyrical style, is now an out of work IT guy who raps only to himself. His cousin James, once known as Jayvee da Mack, is now a book publicist who lives with his boyfriend in Brooklyn \u2013 far removed from the days when he was still in the closet and rapping about getting girls. Only DJ Malik is still grinding, but he spends more time spinning records than he does producing new beats. They come together one last time at a party on the night of Obama\u2019s election, not to make music, but to reckon with the past and dreams deferred.<\/p>\n

Yaya Alafia plays Annie, a beautiful aspiring singer, who draws John out of his shell.<\/p>\n

Big Words<\/strong> hits theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on July 19. The debut engagements will be followed by a top-market theatrical tour presented by AFFRM partners: Imagenation, Urbanworld Film Festival, BronzeLens Film Festival, ReelBlack Film Series, Langston Hughes Film Festival, Howard University\u2019s Parallel Film Collective and Houston Museum of African-American Culture.<\/p>\n
