In response to the unprecedented and historic flood of acclaimed films this year, the Broadcast Film Critics Association<\/strong> (BFCA) has partnered with the House of Blues to produce \u201cCelebration of Black Cinema,” <\/strong>a star-studded event that will take place on the evening of Tuesday, January 7, 2014<\/strong> at the House of Blues in West Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter watching \u201842,\u2019 \u2018Mandela,\u2019 \u201812 Years A Slave,\u2019 \u2018The Butler,\u2019 \u2018Fruitvale Station,\u2019 \u2018Best Man Holiday\u2019 and so many more, we realized never has a single year featured such a wide range of movies with such memorable performances both in front of and behind the camera\u201d, <\/strong>says Joey Berlin, President of the BFCA. “Our membership, almost 300 of the top movie reviewers on television, radio and online, believes that this special level of accomplishment deserves to be acknowledged and saluted.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We have plans for a great party, and a significant event,” <\/strong>says Sam Rubin, the KTLA Entertainment Reporter, who serves along with Berlin as executive producers of the Celebration of Black Cinema. “The House of Blues immediately jumped on board and said we want to be part of this historic night.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

BFCA member Shawn Edwards<\/strong>, a reviewer at Fox 4 Kansas City and the founder of the website “I Love Black Movies<\/strong>,” came up with the initial idea and identified more than 40 notable films released this year primarily written, directed and\/or produced by black men and women, along with so many others featuring notable lead and supporting performances by black actors and actresses. Important documentaries and high profile dramas set in Africa are also part of the Celebration of Black Cinema.<\/p>\n

Special honorees, sponsors and specific details will be announced shortly. Among some of the notables sure to be on the invitation list are Barkhad Adbi, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Chadwick Boseman, Morris Chestnut, Benedict Cumberbatch, Angela Davis, Viola Davis, Melonie Diaz, Vin Diesel, Taye Diggs, Snoop Dogg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender, Laurence Fishburne, Jane Fonda, Harrison Ford, Jamie Foxx, Morgan Freeman, Tyrese Gibson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Hanks, Naomie Harris, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay-Z, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B.Jordan, Sanaa Lathan, Spike Lee, Nia Long, Ludacris, Anthony Mackie, Lupita Nyong\u2019o, David Oyelowo, Brad Pitt, Tyler Perry, Craig Robinson, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, John Singleton, Will Smith, Octavia Spencer, Robert Townsend, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, Isaiah Washington<\/strong> and Pharrell Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Celebration of Black Cinema event comes nine days before the BFCA\u2019s 19th annual Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards ceremony, which will again be broadcast live on The CW Television Network.<\/strong><\/p>\n
