In the last few years we have seen a group of Black newcomers grace the screen with exceptional performances, and with the record number of Black films released in theaters this year that will hopefully lead into the next generation to come.<\/p>\n

In the past we celebrated the emergence of talent that came in small batches. From 2011’s Adepero Oduye (Pariah), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Larry Crowne) to last year’s newcomers – Emayatzy Corinealdi (Middle of Nowhere), Dwight Henry and Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Omar Sy from The Intouchables and Amandla Stenberg from The Hunger Games, each of these names had received a significant amount of exposure that led to accolades and more work.<\/p>\n

Here’s a list of talent that made an impact to the films they were in. While some may have been seen in other areas such as television or music, their presence on the big screen is considered a breathe of fresh air.<\/p>\n
