The Broadcast Film Critics Association<\/strong> (BFCA) has announced that it will be honoring Forest Whitaker <\/strong>with the Joel Siegel Award<\/strong>, to be presented to him by his co-star in \u201cLee Daniels\u2019 The Butler,\u201d Oprah Winfrey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke<\/strong> and Richard Linklater<\/strong> will receive this year\u2019s Critics\u2019 Choice LOUIS XIII Genius Award<\/strong> at the 19th annual Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards. The rest of the night\u2019s winners will be announced live at the Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards ceremony on Thursday, January 16, 2014<\/strong> from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.<\/p>\n

Hosted by Aisha Tyler<\/strong>, the star-studded awards gala will be broadcast live on The CW Network at 8:00 PM ET\/PT<\/strong>. Red Carpet Pre-show coverage will also air in various local markets immediately before the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

The Joel Siegel Award is a special honor given by the BFCA in the name of \u201cGood Morning America\u201d film critic and founding BFCA member Joel Siegel, who lost his long struggle with cancer in June, 2007.\u00a0 The Joel Siegel Award is special to the BFCA, honoring its namesake\u2019s legacy and his belief that the true value of celebrity is as an enhanced platform to do good works for others.\u00a0 It spotlights the leadership role so many great stars undertake to help solve the world\u2019s most pressing problems.\u00a0 Previous recipients include Sean Penn, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle.<\/p>\n

Forest Whitaker<\/strong> is an exceptional actor.\u00a0 He won an Academy Award and a Critics\u2019 Choice award for his work in \u201cThe Last King of Scotland,\u201d and he was acclaimed this past year for his performance as Cecil Gaines in \u201cLee Daniels\u2019 The Butler.\u201d But he is also an exceptional humanitarian who has worked to raise awareness about youth and violence. In 2012, he founded the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, dedicated to helping people affected by violence regardless of age, gender, nationality or faith. Its mission is simple: empower individuals by creating a space for them to be heard, and inspire youth, women and men to promote peace everywhere.<\/p>\n

Matthew McConaughey<\/strong> will present Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke<\/strong> with the Critics\u2019 Choice LOUIS XIII Genius Award.\u00a0 Given last year to Judd Apatow, the LOUIS XIII Genius Award recognizes \u201can unprecedented demonstration of excellence in the cinematic arts.\u201d\u00a0 The trio of collaborators are being recognized for creating one of cinema\u2019s most compelling and unique romantic sagas.\u00a0 The genius of their approach to this extended love story lies in its unvarnished honesty.\u00a0 Nearly 20 years ago in the film \u201cBefore Sunrise,\u201d a romance ignited between two soul mates on a train to Vienna and defined a generation.\u00a0 In the decades that followed, that generation grew up and the complicated characters played by Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke have matured right along with them.\u00a0 In 2004\u2019s \u201cBefore Sunset\u201d and last year\u2019s \u201cBefore Midnight,\u201d the conversation between the French C\u00e9line and American Jesse continued to unfold in real time \u2013 a sort of special cinematic effect which has long fascinated Richard Linklater.<\/p>\n

The Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards are bestowed annually by the BFCA to honor the finest in cinematic achievement. The BFCA is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 280 television, radio and online critics.\u00a0 BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film going public.\u00a0 Eligible films were released in 2013. The accounting firm of CMM, LLP tallied the written ballots.<\/p>\n

Since its inception in 1995, the Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards has been a star-studded bellwether event of the movie awards season.\u00a0 Historically, the Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations. Among nominees expected to attend Thursday\u2019s gala are Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n, Bruce Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ad\u00e8le Exarchopoulos, Tom Hanks, Spike Jonze, Jared Leto, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Melissa McCarthy, Matthew McConaughey, Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, Julia Roberts, David O. Russell, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Oprah Winfrey, and Hans Zimmer.<\/p>\n

The 19th annual Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards will be produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment.<\/p>\n
