Blackfilm.com has exclusively learned that Canadian actress Chattrisse Dolabaille <\/strong>has been cast\u00a0to play singer-songwriter-producer and Grammy\u00a0Award winner\u00a0Missy Elliott<\/strong> in the\u00a0Lifetime TV biopic of singer Aaliyah<\/strong> in “Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,”\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>starring Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp<\/strong> in the title role.<\/p>\n

Missy Elliott, along with Timberland<\/strong>, were instrumental to Aaliyah’s career, serving as record producers to her second album, One in a Million<\/a>; it sold 3.7 million copies in the United States and over eight million copies worldwide.<\/p>\n

\"Aaliyah<\/a>Also cast in the film are Rachael Crawford<\/strong>\u00a0and Sterling Jarvis <\/strong>as Aaliyah’s parents Diane and Michael Haughton,\u00a0 Lyriq Bent<\/strong> will portray her uncle Barry Hankerson, Izaak Smith<\/strong> as Timberland, and Anthony Grant<\/strong>\u00a0as Damon Dash. A.J. Saudin<\/strong> and Jesse Sukunda <\/strong>will play the older and younger version of Aaliyah’s brother Rashad, <\/strong>respectively.<\/p>\n

This film will be based off of Christopher Farley<\/strong>\u2018s best-selling biography Aaliyah: More Than a Woman<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film is being produced by Aaliyah Productions Inc., with Howard Braunstein<\/strong>(The Informant!)<\/em>\u00a0 Debra Martin Chase<\/strong> (The Princess Diaries<\/em>), and daytime talk show host Wendy Williams<\/strong>\u00a0serving as executive producers. Casting the film is\u00a0Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd<\/strong>.\u00a0Bradley Walsh<\/strong> (Turn the Beat Around<\/em>) will direct from a script written by Michael Elliot<\/strong> (Brown Sugar<\/em>).<\/p>\n

The film follows the beautiful and talented performer\u2019s inspirational journey, from her debut on \u201cStar Search\u201d at the age of ten to the challenges she faced during her rise to become the Princess of R&B. On August 25, 2001, at the height of her popularity, her life was tragically cut short when a plane carrying the singer and some of her video crew crashed after takeoff from a Bahamian runway. Although just 22-years-old at the time of her death, Aaliyah continues to lead a legacy as Billboard\u2019s tenth most famous R&B artist of the past 25 years and one of the recording industry\u2019s most successful artists in history.<\/p>\n

This will be Dolabaille’s feature debut and the actress\/singer put together a digital dossier for folks to know more about her.<\/p>\n
