\"WhitneyLifetime has release several pics and a release date for its upcoming biopic on Whitney Houston<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award nominee\u00a0Angela Bassett<\/strong>\u00a0makes her directorial debut with the Lifetime Original Movie Whitney<\/strong>, featuring Yaya DaCosta (Lee Daniels\u2019 The Butler) in the lead role with Arlen Escarpeta (Final Destination 5) alongside her as Bobby Brown. The much-anticipated world premiere will be on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 8pm ET\/PT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Whitney<\/a><\/p>\n

Whitney chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model Whitney Houston and singer and songwriter Bobby Brown from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity to their courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Houston\u2019s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both.\u00a0Whitney and singer Brown met in 1989, were married in 1992 and their daughter,\u00a0Bobbi Kristina<\/strong>, was born the following year. They divorced in 2007.<\/p>\n

Houston\u2019s vocal performances in the film are sung by Grammy\u00ae-nominated and multiplatinum-selling entertainer Deborah Cox. The music featured in the film includes Houston\u2019s hits \u201cThe Greatest Love of All,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m Your Baby Tonight,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m Every Woman\u201d and \u201cI Will Always Love You\u201d as well as Brown\u2019s \u201cEvery Little Step.”<\/p>\n

\"Whitney<\/a><\/p>\n

Yolonda Ross<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is cast in the role of\u00a0Whitney<\/strong>\u2018s longtime friend\u00a0Robyn Crawford. <\/strong>Also in\u00a0<\/strong>the cast are\u00a0Suzzanne Douglas<\/strong>\u00a0and former soap star\u00a0Cornelius Smith Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0(All My Children) in the roles of Whitney\u2019s mother, soul and Gospel singer\u00a0Cissy Houston<\/strong>\u00a0and brother Michael<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n

The film was\u00a0produced by The Sanitsky Company.\u00a0Larry Sanitsky<\/strong>, who worked with Bassett on the Lifetime film \u2018Betty and Coretta,\u2019 \u00a0is the executive producer. Shem Bitterman,\u00a0<\/strong>who wrote \u2018Coretta\u2019 is the screenwriter.<\/p>\n

Following the movie\u2019s premiere, Lifetime will air the hour-long documentary Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston at 10pm, providing an in-depth look at the life and death of Houston. Interviews with friends– including longtime friend Darlene Love–colleagues and industry insiders will offer personal reflections and insight into the life and career of this American songstress and the tragic circumstances of her downfall. Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston is produced by Peacock Productions.<\/p>\n
