Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto to Head Cast<\/strong><\/p>\n

An all-star roster of actors has joined Warner Bros. Pictures\u2019 new action adventure Suicide Squad<\/strong>, bringing DC Comics\u2019 super villain team to the big screen under the direction of David Ayer<\/strong> (Fury). The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman<\/strong>, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.<\/p>\n

The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith<\/strong> (The Pursuit of Happyness, Ali) as Deadshot; Tom Hardy<\/strong> (The Dark Knight Rises, upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie<\/strong> (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto<\/strong> (Dallas Buyers Club, Alexander) as the Joker; Jai Courtney<\/strong> (Divergent, The Water Diviner) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne<\/strong> (Anna Karenina, upcoming Pan) as Enchantress.<\/p>\n

In making the announcement, Silverman said, \u201cThe Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote \u2018Training Day\u2019 and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer\u2019s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ayer is also writing the script for Suicide Squad, which is being produced by Charles Roven<\/strong> (The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Richard Suckle<\/strong> (American Hustle). Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson<\/strong> and Geoff Johns<\/strong> are serving as executive producers.<\/p>\n

Suicide Squad, which was originally created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru<\/strong> back in 1959, will set up shop in Toronto, Canada at their Pinewood extension starting in February. Following two months of pre-production, the film will shoot from April until September for a August 5, 2016 release.<\/p>\n

\"Suicide-Squad-Oprah-Amanda-Waller\"<\/a><\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/a>, Warners still has the role of Amanda Waller, the character who oversees the team (similar to Nick Fury in the Marvel universe), to cast before the film goes into production. The studio\u2019s shortlist of actresses being eyed for the role includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer<\/strong> and Oprah Winfrey<\/strong>, whom sources say would be WB\u2019s first choice for the part. The site also states that\u00a0Jesse Eisenberg<\/strong> is also in talks to play Lex Luthor in the film, a role he will first play in \u201cBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,\u201d though the status of his deal is unknown.<\/p>\n
