According to Showbiz411<\/a>, Phylicia Rashad<\/strong> has been added to the cast of Ryan Coogler’s “Creed,”<\/strong> playing the widow of Apollo Creed and grandmother to Michael B. Jordan’s<\/strong> character.\u00a0 She joins Tessa Thompson<\/strong>, who plays the female lead. The two starred together in Tyler Perry’s 2014 film For Colored Girls.<\/p>\n

Raised in an upper-crust home thanks to the ring riches earned by his grandfather, the young man (Jordan) doesn\u2019t have to box and his family doesn\u2019t want him to. Yet, he has the natural instinct and gifts and potential that made his grandfather the heavyweight champion until Rocky Balboa took his crown in 1979\u2032s Rocky II. Creed\u2019s grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return.<\/p>\n

Sylvester Stallone <\/strong>will returning to reprise his role Balboa.<\/p>\n

\"Michael<\/a><\/p>\n

Balboa was Creed\u2019s father\u2019s greatest opponent and later his best friend until that fateful moment when Balboa heeded Creed\u2019s wishes and didn\u2019t stop the fight against the Soviet fighter Drago (played by Dolph Lungdren<\/strong> in 1985\u2032s Rocky IV) before the giant delivered what proved to be a fatal beating. The elder Creed, played by Carl Weathers<\/strong>, appeared in the first four Rocky films.<\/p>\n

In talks to join the film are champion boxers Andre Ward and Tony Bellew<\/strong> with Bellew to play a fighter named “Pretty Ricky Porter,” Michael B. Jordan’s main opponent in the ring.<\/p>\n

\"Apollo<\/a>\u00a0Best known for playing opposite Bill Cosby in ‘The Cosby Show,’ \u00a0Rashad was last seen in TV adaptation of ‘Steel Magnolias’ opposite Queen Latifah. Other film credits include Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds,’ Halle Berry’s mother in ‘Frankie and Alice,’ and \u2018Just Right\u2019 with Queen Latifah again.<\/p>\n

Writer\/director Ryan Coogler, who directed Jordan in the award-winning Fruitvale Station<\/strong>, is drafting Creed alongside Aaron Covington<\/strong>. Stallone will also produce, alongside Robert Chartoff<\/strong>, Kevin King<\/strong> and Irwin Winkler<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
