When Dr. Hess Green (<strong>Stephen Tyrone Williams<\/strong>) is introduced to a mysteriously cursed artifact by an art curator, Lafayette Hightower (<strong>Elvis Nolasco<\/strong>), he is uncontrollably drawn into a newfound thirst for blood that overwhelms his soul. He however is not a vampire. Lafayette quickly succumbs to the ravenous nature of the infliction but leaves Hess a transformed man. Soon Lafayette\u2019s wife, Ganja Hightower <strong>(Zaraah Abrahams<\/strong>), comes looking for her husband and becomes involved in a dangerous romance with Hess that questions the very nature of love, addiction, sex, and status in our seemingly sophisticated society.<\/p>\n<p>Also featured in the film are\u00a0Remi Malek, Felicia Pearson, Lauren Macklin, and Katherine Borowitz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Da-Sweet-Blood-of-Jesus-Stephen-and-the-Artifact.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-54321\" alt=\"Da Sweet Blood of Jesus - Stephen and the Artifact\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 199'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Da-Sweet-Blood-of-Jesus-Stephen-and-the-Artifact-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A reinterpretation of <strong>Bill Gunn\u2019s<\/strong> horror cult film<strong> \u201cGanja &amp; Hess\u201d,<\/strong> which played as a Critics\u2019 Choice at the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, Spike Lee\u2019s stylized thriller features an Original Score by <strong>Bruce Hornsby<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Initially funded by Kickstarter, &#8220;Da Sweet Blood of Jesus&#8221; is produced <strong>by Chiz Schultz <\/strong>(who also produced \u201cGanja &amp; Hess\u201d) and Spike Lee, co-produced by <strong>Jason Sokoloff<\/strong>, with cinematography by <strong>Daniel Patterson<\/strong>, costume design by <strong>Ruth E. Carter<\/strong>, production design by <strong>Kay Lee<\/strong>, and editing by<strong> Randy Wilkins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The production company is 40 Acres &amp; A Mule Filmworks.
