She&#8217;s determined to hold someone accountable for Matt&#8217;s death.\u00a0<strong>Benito Martinez<\/strong>\u00a0portrays Alonzo, the father whose innocent son is among the suspects in the slaying. <strong>Elvis Nolasco<\/strong> and <strong>Caitlin Gerard<\/strong> play an interracial couple, both drug addicts.<\/p>\n<p>Also featured in the series are\u00a0<strong>W. Earl Brown,\u00a0Penelope Ann Miller,\u00a0Richard Cabral, Johnny Ortiz<\/strong>,\u00a0and guest star\u00a0<strong>Regina King<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elvis-Nolasco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-63782\" alt=\"Elvis Nolasco\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 209 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Elvis-Nolasco-209x300.jpg\" width=\"209\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For Nolasco, who plays one of the suspects, Carter Nix, the role represents his biggest project to date. Having working on films (<strong>The Kitchen, Rock Steady, Vodka Rocks, Inconsolable Memories, I&#8217;m Not Rappaport, Prison Song, Philadelphia<\/strong>) and TV\u00a0series including\u00a0<strong>Law &amp; Order, NYPD Blue, Law &amp; Order SVU<\/strong> and <strong>Third Watch<\/strong>, the New York native has mostly been associate with his work on a few of\u00a0<strong>Spike Lee<\/strong>&#8216;s film, having appeared in <strong>Clockers, Da Brick, Oldboy<\/strong>, and most recently <strong>Da Sweet Blood of Jesus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Blackfilm.com recently spoke with Nolasco on his role in the series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was the attraction to doing this series?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Elvis Nolasco:<\/strong> I was really blessed to work with John Ridley and Spike Lee some years ago for an HBO project (Da Brick) that unfortunately didn&#8217;t get picked up. In February of &#8217;14, I got a phone call that John Ridley wanted to see me for his new project called &#8220;American Crime.&#8221; It was presented to me and it was because of my relationship with John in the past.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John-Ridley-Elvis-Nolasco-and-Spike-Lee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-63783\" alt=\"John Ridley Elvis Nolasco and Spike Lee\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 252'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/John-Ridley-Elvis-Nolasco-and-Spike-Lee-300x252.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Is this your biggest role to date, being the one of the leads of the series?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EN:<\/strong> Yes. As far as my career is concerned, this is the biggest project for me. I have a lot of stuff going on this year. I recently had Spike Lee&#8217;s &#8220;Da Sweet Blood of Jesus&#8221; released on VOD and in theaters and &#8220;American Crime&#8221; will air Thursday, March 5th after &#8220;Scandal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How would you describe your character Carter Nix?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/American-Crime-Elvis-Nolasco-as-Carter-Nix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-63784\" alt=\"American Crime Elvis Nolasco as Carter Nix\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 200 300'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/American-Crime-Elvis-Nolasco-as-Carter-Nix-200x300.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>EN:<\/strong> I would say that he&#8217;s a dark and complex character, a loner and an outcast. He&#8217;s someone that came from somewhere but has an empty void that he&#8217;s desperately trying to fill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How&#8217;s working with Caitlin Gerard, who plays your girlfriend Aubry Taylor?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EN:<\/strong> Yes, she plays my love interest and if I was to take this ride with any actress, they couldn&#8217;t pair me with an extraordinary talented young lady as Caitlin Gerard. We had a blast. Like the rest of the cast, we showed up and gave John Ridley and gave him exactly what he asked of us from the very beginning and what he described what these two characters were to each other. It&#8217;s a tragedy. To sit around the television with their families and scrutinize these characters.
