Fox To Premiere Empire’s Season 2 On Sept. 23<\/strong>Posted by Wilson Morales<\/p>\n

\"Empire<\/a>\u00a0FOX announced today that \u201cEmpire”<\/strong> will premiere its second season on Wednesday, September 23 at 9pm.<\/p>\n

From Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels<\/strong> (Lee Daniels\u2019 The Butler, Precious), Emmy Award winner Danny Strong<\/strong> (\u201cGame Change,\u201d Lee Daniels\u2019 The Butler) and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning producer Brian Grazer<\/strong> (A Beautiful Mind, \u201c24\u201d), comes the drama about a family dynasty, set within a world of music, glamour, danger and power.<\/p>\n

While the first season had 10 episodes, the second will be expanded to 18. It will be\u00a0split into 2 halves, premiering in the fall and with the second half in the winter of 2016.<\/p>\n

The cast will be doing concerts this summer, in addition to other promotional efforts that kick off in June. The creators will be at ABFF on June 14\u00a0to talk on the most powerful and groundbreaking show on television.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The series stars Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard<\/strong> as Lucious Lyon\u00a0and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson<\/strong>\u00a0as Cookie Lyon, Jussie Smollett<\/strong> as Jamal Lyon, Bryshere Gray<\/strong> as Hakeem Lyon, Trai Byers<\/strong> as Andre Lyon, Grace Gealey<\/strong> as Anika Gibbons, and Kaitlin Doubleday<\/strong> as Rhonda Lyon.<\/p>\n

\"Gabourey<\/a><\/p>\n

Gabourey Sidibe<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ta\u2019Rhonda Jones<\/strong>, who play Lucious\u2019 and Cookie\u2019s respective assistants Becky and Porsha, have been elevated to series regulars for Season 2.<\/p>\n

In season 2, the songs will written by\u00a0Ne-Yo<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Timberland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here are notable facts on the show from\u00a0Wikipedia<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>– The show\u2019s premiere ranked as Fox\u2019s highest-rated debut in three years. Viewership has increased continuously; Empire is the first series in at least 23 years to have its viewership increase week to week for its first five episodes. The show continues to increase its viewership with further episodes.<\/p>\n

As of its first season finale, Empire has now surpassed The Big Bang Theory as the highest rated scripted program in the 2014-2015 television season. The first season finale is also the highest rated freshman season finale since May 2005, when Grey\u2019s Anatomy ended its first season. Empire\u2019s season one finale grew 82 percent from its series premiere, making it the show that has grown the most over the course of its first season since Men in Trees during the 2006-2007 season.<\/p>\n

Among the guests scheduled to appear in the new season are\u00a0Chris Rock, Alicia Keys<\/strong> and Lenny Kravitz<\/strong>.
