Deadline<\/a> is reporting that Universal Pictures has acquired a spec script titled Humbug,<\/strong> which has Tim Story<\/strong> directing Ice Cub<\/strong>e as Ebeneezer Scrooge in a retelling of Charles Dickens\u2019 A Christmas Carol.<\/p>\n

In the modern version, Cube will play a wealthy real estate mogul shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.<\/p>\n

Written by Todd R. Jones and Earl Ritchey Jones<\/strong>. Humbug was initially acquired by Relativity Media prior to its filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between Story and Cube goes back to when they worked on the first Barbershop<\/strong> and, most recently, on Ride Along<\/strong>. They have Ride Along 2<\/strong> coming out in 2016 during Martin Luther King weekend. Cube is set to appear in Barbershop 3<\/strong>, which Malcolm D. Lee<\/strong> is directing and opening on April 15.<\/p>\n

Cube is coming off being one of the producers on the blockbuster hit film, Straight Outta Compton<\/strong>, which tells the story of his early days as a member of the rap group N.W.A. The film has grossed nearly $160M to date.<\/p>\n
