Liongate announced that \u201cMe and Earl and the Dying Girl\u201d<\/strong> actor R.J. Cyler<\/strong> has been cast as the Blue Ranger for its upcoming \u201cPower Rangers\u201d<\/strong> movie.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Jacksonville, Florida, native\u00a0follows the casting of\u00a0Naomi Scott<\/strong> as the Pink Ranger,\u00a0Dacre Montgomery<\/strong> as the Red Ranger, and Ludi Lin<\/strong> as the Black Ranger.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Ronald Cyler II (nicknamed RJ) played Earl in Fox Searchlight’s \u201cMe and Earl and the Dying Girl\u201d opposite Thomas Mann<\/strong> and Olivia Cooke<\/strong>. The studio picked up the film from Sundance, where it premiered and\u00a0won both the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic and the Audience Award for U.S. Drama.<\/p>\n

Dean Israelite<\/strong> will be directing the movie from a script by Ashley Miller<\/strong> and Zack Stentz. Haim Saban, Brian Casentini<\/strong> and Allison Shearmur<\/strong> are producing.<\/p>\n

\"Blue<\/a><\/p>\n

The story reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids given extraterrestrial powers who unite to save the world.<\/p>\n

The 1993 Fox Kids TV series became a pop culture phenomenon and inspired two\u00a0big-screen adaptation from 20th Century Fox, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” in 1995 and “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie” in 1997.<\/p>\n

\u201cPower Rangers\u201d hits theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.<\/p>\n
