She&#8217;s been shown in several flashbacks as Leah Walker, mother to young Lucious Lyon aka Dwight Walker.<\/p>\n<p>From the scenes shown, it seems that Lucious (played by Terrence Howard) as well as his son Andre (played by Trai Byers) may have inherited their bipolar symptoms from Leah.<\/p>\n<p>While promoting her partnership with baby laundry detergent Dreft, Rowland spoke with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/theknockturnal.com\/exclusive-kelly-rowland-talks-dreft-campaign-halloween-and-empire\/\">theknockturnal.com<\/a><\/strong> about her guest starring role on the hit show and meeting its co-creator Lee Daniels.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a portion of their interview with the Grammy Award winner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Empire-S2-Ep1-pic-21-Kelly-Rowland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-71576\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 193'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Empire-S2-Ep1-pic-21-Kelly-Rowland-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"Empire S2 Ep1 pic 21 Kelly Rowland\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>And so you\u2019re appearing on\u00a0<em>Empire<\/em>, which I\u2019m also a fan of.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok the last two episodes have been really awesome.\u00a0Yeah they really, really have. Watch it before the new ones come on; have a little binge moment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you link up with the show?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lee [Daniels, show creator] and I were at a SoulCycle class at the same time, and he was on the other side of the room, and he was like \u2018I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Like mouthing it to me. And I said \u2018what?\u2019 *Laughs<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Lee-Daniels-Empire.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-73943\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 225'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Lee-Daniels-Empire-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Lee Daniels Empire\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And so after the class we spoke. You know usually people have \u2018Hollywood Talk,\u2019 he meant every word. The next day the folks from Empire asked \u2018well what is her availability, we need her to shoot these days.\u2019\u00a0I thought \u2018now he\u2019s not Hollywood talking.\u2019 I love people from Philly, but this was another level.\u00a0He\u2019s just true to his roots and [pauses], honest. And I appreciate that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you know who he was when started mouthing at you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Absolutely!<\/p>\n<p><strong>I wondered if you thought it was just some person yelling at you\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Noooo. And the funny thing is I would just say hi and nod and just smile. But this day he came up and said \u2018how are you?\u2019 Super-talkative.\u00a0I was like yeah!<\/p>\n<p><strong>So how\u2019d you get in character?<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I started reading up about bi-polar disorder. And actually looking at YouTube as well. Cause YouTube has people talking about their own journey through bi-polar disorder. I just kind of wrapped my head around it.\u00a0One thing that I love about my character is her love for her son. She just wanted to be a great mom. And she\u2019s willing to go through anything to make sure that he\u2019s happy.\u00a0And with her illness sometimes it makes it a bit of a challenge, because some days she doesn\u2019t know what she\u2019s doing; whether it\u2019s herself or her son.\u00a0But she loves him. She\u00a0<em>loves\u00a0<\/em>him. And then I\u2019m going to shoot another one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fantastic. What are your Halloween plans?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Titan and I are going to dress up. We\u2019re going to go as Micky and Minnie Mouse. And we\u2019re gonna go to about four houses for trick-or-treating [smirks], call it a day. His first trick-or-treating experience.
