WGN America has released a teaser from their upcoming\u00a0pulse-pounding thriller, \u201cUnderground.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

WGN America\u2019s \u201cUnderground\u201d stars Aldis Hodge<\/strong> (\u201cStraight Outta Compton,\u201d \u201cLeverage,\u201d \u201cTurn\u201d) as Noah, a restless slave who organizes a small team of fellow slaves on the Macon plantation to plan an escape; Jurnee Smollett-Bell<\/strong> (\u201cFriday Night Lights,\u201d \u201cTrue Blood,\u201d \u201cThe Great Debaters\u201d) as Rosalee, a shy house slave with a powerful inner strength and courage; Emmy-nominated actor Christopher Meloni<\/strong> (\u201cLaw & Order: Special Victims Unit,\u201d \u201cSin City: A Dame to Kill For\u201d) as August Pullman, a secretive man who walks a tightrope between morality and survival; Alano Miller<\/strong> (\u201cJane The Virgin\u201d) as Cato, a cunning, charismatic man despised and feared by his fellow slaves; and Jessica de Gouw<\/strong> (\u201cArrow,\u201d \u201cDracula\u201d) as Elizabeth Hawkes, a socialite who shares the abolitionist ideals of her husband, John (Marc Blucas<\/strong>, \u201cBlue Bloods\u201d), a lawyer whose principles clash with the legislation he\u2019s sworn to uphold.<\/p>\n

\"WGN<\/a>The internationally renowned cast includes Adina Porter<\/strong> (\u201cTrue Blood,\u201d \u201cThe 100,\u201d \u201cThe Newsroom\u201d) as Pearly Mae, a strong-willed wife and mother; Mykelti Williamson<\/strong> (\u201cJustified,\u201d \u201c24\u201d) as her husband Moses, a fiery preacher; Amirah Vann<\/strong> (\u201cGirls,\u201d \u201cAnd So It Goes\u201d) as Ernestine, head house slave and fiercely devoted mother; Johnny Ray Gill (\u201cRectify\u201d) as Sam, Rosalee\u2019s half-brother and a talented carpenter; Chris Chalk<\/strong> (\u201cThe Newsroom,\u201d \u201cHomeland,\u201d \u201cGotham\u201d) as William Still, an abolitionist ally; Reed Diamond<\/strong> (\u201cAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.\u201d) as Tom Macon, a plantation owner and political candidate; and Jussie Smollett<\/strong> (\u201cEmpire\u201d), who joins his sister Smollett-Bell in the cast as Josey, a wild-eyed runaway who doesn\u2019t trust anyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderground\u201d is created and written by Misha Green<\/strong> (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Heroes”) and Joe Pokaski<\/strong> (“Heroes,” “Daredevil”), who serve as Executive Producers alongside Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman<\/strong> (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”) of Weed Road Pictures; Tory Tunnell<\/strong> (“King Arthur,” “Holy Rollers”) and Joby Harold<\/strong> (“King Arthur,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) of Safehouse Pictures; and John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius of Get Lifted. Anthony Hemingway<\/strong> (\u201cThe Wire,\u201d \u201cTreme\u201d) directs and serves as Executive Producer for the first four episodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderground\u201d marks WGN America\u2019s latest straight-to-series order since the growing national cable network began its aggressive expansion into high-quality scripted programming last year. The network\u2019s first original series \u201cSalem,\u201d a breakout hit, was recently renewed for a third season that will debut next year, and the sophomore season of its Emmy-nominated drama \u201cManhattan\u201d will premiere October 13, 2015. The network is also in production in Pittsburgh, PA on the scripted original series \u201cOutsiders,\u201d set to premiere early next year.<\/p>\n
