Coming to DVD on December 22<\/strong> is NBC\u2019s musical television production of The Wiz Live!, which stars\u00a0Shanice Williams<\/strong>, an 18-year-old newcomer from New Jersey, as Dorothy while\u00a0David Alan Grier<\/strong>\u00a0plays\u00a0the Cowardly Lion.\u00a0Ne-Yo<\/strong>\u00a0is the Tin Man, who was once a flesh-and-blood woodsman but a spell put on him by the Wicked Witch causes him to lose his limbs and heart. He learns that he\u2019s never lost the ability to feel.\u00a0Elijah Kelley<\/strong>\u00a0is the Scarecrow, the first of the three friends to meet Dorothy and who has always dreamed of having brains, but never realizing that he\u2019s the smartest of them all.<\/p>\n

Queen Latifah<\/strong>\u00a0stars as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as Evilene, a.k.a. the Wicked Witch of the West,\u00a0Uzo Aduba<\/strong>\u00a0as Glinda (the Good Witch of the South),\u00a0Amber Riley<\/strong>\u00a0as Addaperle (the Good Witch of the North), and\u00a0Common<\/strong>\u00a0as the Bouncer, and\u00a0Stephanie Mills<\/strong>\u00a0(who played Dorothy in the original Broadway production of \u201cThe Wiz\u201d) as Auntie Em.<\/p>\n

Also included on the DVD will be the NBC special, The Making of The Wiz Live, featuring the behind-the-scenes story of producing this live television event!<\/p>\n

The spectacular television event is executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, whose numerous credits include the 2002 Chicago, which won six Oscars\u00ae including Best Picture, the television series Smash and the Tony Award-winning Broadway revivals of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Promises, Promises.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0live telecast of The Wiz Live! delivered hit ratings, averaging a 3.4 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49 and 11.5 million viewers overall to dominate the night for NBC. It was the network\u2019s best Thursday average in total viewers, excluding sports, since September 2014, and nearly tripled NBC\u2019s best 18-49 Thursday average, excluding sports. It was also NBC\u2019s highest-rated night for any night of the week, excluding sports, in 11 years, since November 2004.<\/p>\n

In addition to the The Wiz Live! on DVD, the previously unreleased Diana Ross album, Diana Ross Sings Songs from The Wiz, a rare 1978 recording that features Ross singing every role from the classic movie musical, is out now via all digital retailers.<\/p>\n
