‘Creed’ Named Best Film Of 2015 By The Black Film Critics Circle<\/strong>Posted by Wilson Morales<\/p>\n

\"BFCC<\/a><\/p>\n

The Black Film Critics Circle (BFCC) has voted \u201cCREED\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Best Film of 2015, GEORGE MILLER<\/strong> Best Director for \u201cMAD MAX FURY ROAD\u201d, BRIE LARSON<\/strong> Best Actress for \u201cROOM\u201d and MICHAEL B. JORDAN<\/strong> Best Actor for \u201cCREED\u201d. The announcement was made today by Mike Sargent, co-president, BFCC. Votes were cast and tabulated in NY at the organization\u2019s annual meeting on December 19, 2015.<\/p>\n

\"Creed<\/a><\/p>\n

Recognizing achievements in theatrical motion pictures, the BFCC awarded prizes in 13 categories including best picture, best director, original and adapted screenplay, best actor, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best animated feature, best independent film, best documentary feature, best foreign film and best ensemble. Special Signature awards are also given to industry pioneers and rising stars.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been an very interesting and unique year for Black films.\u201d<\/strong> says Sargent. \u201c2015 marked the first time that films with African American actors in lead roles have taken over the box office for five consecutive weeks, and the first time where it’s three different films in 3 consecutive weeks. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Straight<\/a><\/p>\n

It began with “Straight Outta Compton,” then “War Room,” and finally “The Perfect Guy<\/span>.” Black films are\u00a0branching out from the limited to North-American distribution they normally\u00a0get to our inclusion in the global film marketplace. The future of black films looks brighter than its ever been. Congratulations to all of the winners.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPioneer \u2013 Ice Cube<\/strong>
\nThis year’s BFCC Pioneer Award is given to Actor-Writer-Director-Producer Ice Cube. Ice has proved that perseverance; artistic integrity and an unerring commitment to excellence will always yield remarkable results. Since his Acting Debut in John Singletons Boyz & the Hood to his writing Debut with the now legendary comedy film franchise Friday up until his producing efforts for this years box office hit Straight outta Compton Ice Cube continues to defy expectations expand the boundaries of what black filmmakers can achieve and embodies the very essence of the word
\nPioneer.<\/p>\n

Rising Star \u2013 Abraham Attah<\/strong>
\nAbraham Attah\u2019s acting debut alongside Idris Elba in “Beasts of No Nation” is one of the strongest and most phenomenal we have ever seen. His powerful, nuanced performance as Agu a young boy drawn into a rising rebel faction after his family is killed during a horrific civil war is both haunting and unforgettable. We believe he has a very bright future ahead of him.<\/p>\n

SPECIAL MENTION \u2013 Beasts of No Nation<\/strong>
\nSpecial Mention goes to “Beasts of No Nation” adapted from Uzodinma Iweala’s 2005 novel is a profoundly moving coming-of-age tale set against the nightmarish backdrop of war makes a strong statement about the brutality of conflict against civilians, and addresses the important issues of child soldiers in war torn countries. The film is both heartbreaking and powerful and one we felt needed special recognition<\/p>\n

Founded in 2010, the Black Film Critics Circle is a membership organization comprised of film critics of color from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, magazines, radio, television and qualifying on-line publications. The organization is dedicated to honoring excellence of professionals in the theatrical motion picture industry in U.S. and World Cinema. Its mission is to celebrate contributions and achievements in film by people of the black Diaspora who work in front of and behind the camera, maintain the integrity of a true Critics organization and advance a collective vision of journalists of the black Diaspora. BFCC assists in the development of new talent in the field of entertainment journalism through educational opportunities, mentoring and strategic partnerships and raises awareness of the significance of black film and black film history as a critical part of film culture and preservation. The organization meets annually in December to vote on the year\u2019s films.
