\"SAG\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place Saturday evening at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles after\u00a0voting by the 165,000 members of SAG-AFTRA. The telecast is aired live on TNT and TBS.<\/p>\n

With all the talk these days about #OscarsSoWhite and the lack of diversity with its recent nominations, winners at the SAG Awards were quite the opposite as\u00a0Viola Davis, Queen Latifah, Uzo Aduba and Idris Elba walked away with trophies.<\/p>\n

\"2016<\/a><\/p>\n

History was made as\u00a0Elba was a double winner for supporting actor in a film for Netflix\u2019s \u201cBeasts of No Nation\u201d and for actor in a TV movie\/miniseries for BBC America\u2019s \u201cLuther.\u201d He had the best line of the night when he stated,\u00a0\u201cLadies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Orange Is the New Black,\u201d which 34 cast members, won\u00a0its second consecutive win for comedy series, as did Aduba for Female Actor in a comedy series.\u00a0Aduba dedicated her win to \u201cthe actors who are not here in this room with us,\u201d urging them to \u201ckeep trying, keep plugging, keep working, stay in line. You have the chance, it is yours.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"2016<\/a><\/p>\n

Viola Davis won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role on ABC’s \u201cHow to Get Away with Murder.\u201d While talking to reporters backstage, Davis stated,\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve become a society of trending topics. Diversity is not a trending topic \u2026 I see myself as an actor, no matter what is going on in the business, I will find a way to practice my art. All the actors of color I know don\u2019t place any limitations on themselves either\u2026 regardless of what\u2019s going on in the industry, no matter what\u2019s going on in the Academy, they will find a way to be excellent. We always have and we always will.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"2016<\/a><\/p>\n

Queen Latifah won\u00a0for Female Actor in a movie or miniseries for HBO\u2019s Bessie Smith biopic \u201cBessie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nominees chosen by their respective SAG Awards film and television nominating committees were announced on Dec. 9, 2015. Information on voting procedures to choose the recipients was sent to the 116,741 active voting members of SAG-AFTRA on Dec. 16. Balloting closed at noon on Friday, Jan. 29. Integrity Voting Systems, the Awards\u2019 official election teller, sealed the results until they were announced live during the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.<\/p>\n
