Here’s the first clip to Leila Djansi’s Like Cotton Twines<\/strong>, which will make its World Premiere at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival on June 2 in the World Fiction Competition.<\/p>\n

Directed and written by Leila Djansi, the film stars Jay Ellis, Ophelia Dzidzornu, Miranda Bailey, Yvonne Okoro, Luckie Lawson<\/strong> and David Dontoh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Micah Brown (Jay Ellis), an American English teacher thought his life in Ghana was going to be serene and self satisfying until he discovers his student, 14 year-old Tuigi (Ophelia Dzidzornu) is being forced to drop out of school. To atone for her father’s crime, she will become a Trokosi \u2013 Wife of the gods. A practice of religious sexual slavery. Locked in a battle between church and state, the past and the present, Micah is determined to help Tuigi have a life outside this tradition.<\/p>\n
