The film details the explosive Clarence Thomas<\/strong> Supreme Court nomination hearings, which brought the country to a standstill and forever changed the way we think about sexual harassment, victims\u2019 rights and modern-day race relations. It looks behind the curtain of Washington politics, depicting a pivotal moment in American culture that became a turning point in workplace equality and gender politics.<\/p>\n

Directed by Rick Famuyiwa<\/strong> (Dope) from a script written by Susannah Grant<\/strong> (Oscar nominee for Erin Brockovich), Confirmation features \u201cpowerful\u201d (Variety), \u201caffecting and nuanced performances\u201d (Los Angeles Times) from an all-star cast led by Emmy nominated\u00a0Kerry Washington<\/strong>\u00a0and Wendell Pierce<\/strong> (HBO\u2019s Treme and The Wire).<\/p>\n

In July 1991, President George H.W. Bush nominated Judge Clarence Thomas to fill Justice Thurgood Marshall\u2019s seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. In October, during the final days of Thomas\u2019 confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, both Newsday and NPR broke the story that one of Thomas\u2019 former employees, law professor Anita Hill<\/strong>, had accused him of sexually harassing her ten years earlier. These revelations triggered a maelstrom of events, with both Hill and Thomas testifying about the allegations before a stunned and riveted television audience. The release includes brief discussions with Washington and Pierce on the historical impact of the hearings as well as \u201cCharacter Spot\u201d featuring cast members discussing the character they play.<\/p>\n

Also featured in the film are Jennifer Hudson<\/strong>, who plays\u00a0Angela Wright, who worked with Thomas at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and issued a key statement about Thomas’ comments about women. Greg Kinnear<\/strong> is then-Sen. Joe Biden, who presided over the hearings as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee; Jeffrey Wright<\/strong>\u00a0portrays Charles Ogletree, who served as legal counsel to Hill during the hearings; Kimberly Elise<\/strong> plays Sonia Jarvis, a civil rights attorney on Anita Hill’s legal team, and Alison Wright<\/strong> (The Americans<\/em>) is Ginni Thomas, an attorney and Clarence’s wife.<\/p>\n

Bill Irwin <\/strong>plays Republican Senator John Danforth. Dylan Baker<\/strong> plays Republican Senator Orrin Hatch. Erika Christensen<\/strong> plays Shirley Wiegand, Hill’s close friend. Malcolm Gets<\/strong> plays Republican Senator Arlen Specter. Grace Gummer<\/strong> plays Ricki Seidman, aide to Senator Edward Kennedy. Zoe Lister-Jones<\/strong> portrays Carolyn Hart, an aide to Senator Biden. Peter McRobbie<\/strong> portrays Republican Senator Alan Simpson. Treat Williams<\/strong> plays Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy and Eric Stonestreet<\/strong> portrays Ken Duberstein, a Washington lobbyist hired by President George H. W.
