A vista of unenticing career prospects opens before her, and her latest relationship has just unceremoniously ended. Chronically self-analyzing, she often hangs out with her two aunts, mother, and grandmother Daphne (Michelle Hurst). The women constantly bicker and judge each other&#8217;s life choices, a routine that&#8217;s interrupted when the estranged patriarch of the family literally dies on their doorstep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Jean-of-the-Jonese-Mamoudou-Athie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignleft size-medium wp-image-88172\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 169'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Jean-of-the-Jonese-Mamoudou-Athie-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Jean of the Jonese - Mamoudou Athie\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ray (Mamoudou Athie), the paramedic who takes their 911 call, falls fast for the acerbic Jean. The feeling is more or less mutual, but their potential romance will have to take a back seat to the chaos leading up to the funeral. In a series of sometimes harsh, always-spirited discussions \u2014 fuelled by a complex family history, a few drinks, and the occasional toke \u2014 the women will do their best to figure themselves out, and to understand each other.<\/p>\n<p>Jean of the Jonesesis directed and written by Stella Meghie, and was filmed on location in New York and Toronto, Canada. <strong>Amos Adetuyi, Stella Meghie
