BET has just announced that the network will air THE NEW EDITION STORY<\/strong> as a six hour, three night event on January 24, 25, and 26, 2017.<\/strong> The much-anticipated biopic will bring to life the story of the group that laid the foundation for how modern-day boy bands look, feel, and sound. Boyz II Men, N\u2019SYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and New Kids On The Block all took their cues from New Edition, the famed band that included Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill who, for over the last three decades, have consistently produced hit music as a band.<\/p>\n

The biopic follows the group from their humble beginnings as kids in Boston to global mega stardom – weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes, and the ultimate cost of fame.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the announcement of the release dates, BET has additionally released a first look clip from the film which can be viewed HERE.<\/p>\n

The miniseries was written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) and executive produced by Jesse Collins (Real Husbands of Hollywood) for JCE Films, a division of Jesse Collins Entertainment.<\/p>\n

The miniseries will be directed by Chris Robinson<\/strong> (ATL) with Brooke Payne, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant<\/strong> and Bobby Brown<\/strong> serving on as co-producers for the film.<\/p>\n

Empire’s Bryshere Gray<\/strong> will play Michael Bivins as an adult and Dante Hoagland<\/strong> will play Michael as a child. Elijah Kelley<\/strong> will play Ricky Bell as an adult and Caleb McLaughlin<\/strong> will play Ricky as a child. Luke James<\/strong> will play Johnny Gill. Algee Smith<\/strong> will play Ralph Tresvant as an adult and Jahi Winston<\/strong> will play Ralph as a child. Keith Powers<\/strong> will play Ronnie Devoe as an adult and Myles Truitt<\/strong> will play Ronnie as a child. Woody McClain<\/strong> will play Bobby Brown as an adult and Tyler Williams<\/strong> will play Bobby as a child.<\/p>\n

Written by Abdul Williams<\/strong> (Lottery Ticket) the three-night miniseries event is scheduled to premiere on BET in 2017 with principal photography starting in Los Angeles in May 2016.<\/p>\n

\"New<\/a>La La Anthony, Yvette Nicole Brown, Monica Calhoun, Lisa Nicole Carson<\/strong> and Sandi McCree<\/strong> have also been cast in the miniseries playing the mothers of the iconic 1980s R&B\/ pop group.<\/p>\n

Anthony will play Flo DeVoe, mother of the young Ronnie DeVoe, Brown will play Michael Bivins\u2019 mother Shirley Bivins, Calhoun is Ralph Tresvant\u2019s mother Patricia Tresvant, Carson will play Ricky Bell\u2019s mother Mae Bell and McCree is Bobby Brown\u2019s mother Carole Brown.<\/p>\n

In addition, Wood Harris, Michael Rapaport, Faizon Love, Duane Martin, Tank and Bre-Z <\/b>are also in the cast.<\/p>\n

\"New<\/a>Wood Harris will play Brooke Payne. Michael Rapaport will play Gary Evans. Faizon Love will play Maurice Starr. Duane Martin will play Louil Silas. Tank will play Jheryl Busby and Empire’s Bre-Z will play Peanut Bell.<\/p>\n
