The independent film ’37,’<\/strong> starring Orange Is The New Black’s Samira Wiley<\/strong>, will hit theaters and On Demand on October 7th.<\/p>\n

Directed By Puk Grasten<\/strong>, the film stars Samira Wiley, Michael Potts, Adrian Martinez, Maria Dizzia, Jamie Harrold, Thomas Kopache, Lucy Martin, Christina Brucato Don Puglisi, Sophia Lillis, Evan Fine<\/strong>, and Marquise Gray<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The film is inspired by a true story set in 1964, New York, where several neighbors witness the brutal murder and rape of Kitty Genovese <\/strong>and do not intervene.<\/p>\n

\"37<\/a><\/p>\n

The film peeks into the lives of three disparate families, the lonely neighbor and the doorman. We connect with the neighbors and understand their decisions not to act by following their day-to-day struggles. Inside their apartments the neighbors are dealing with their personal lives and conflicts the same way as they deal with witnessing a murder; if we don\u2019t see, hear or talk about it, then it didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n

\"Samira<\/a><\/p>\n

Wiley and Potts along with\u00a0Marquise Gary\u00a0make up\u00a0the Smith\u00a0family,\u00a0one of the\u00a0three families\u00a0centered in the film.\u00a0The Smiths are new to the neighborhood, and they don\u2019t fit in. Fleeing the race riots and tensions in Harlem in pursuit of a better life for themselves and their children (they have one, and she\u2019s pregnant with a second child), Archibald and Joyce have moved into an apartment left vacant by a Jewish couple who died in the apartment.<\/p>\n

The film was produced by Regner Grasten Film and Game 7 Films.<\/p>\n
