FOX TV has released the poster for\u00a0its latest series Star,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0which will have a\u00a0special premiere\u00a0on Wednesday, Dec. 14\u00a0at\u00a0(9:00-10:00 PM ET\/PT)\u00a0following\u00a0Empire Season 3<\/strong> fall finale will air at a special time (8:00-9:00 PM ET\/PT).\u00a0Star will then premiere in its regular time period with an all-new episode Wednesday, Jan. 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET\/PT).<\/p>\n

Written by Daniels and Tom Donaghy<\/strong> and set in Atlanta, Star revolves around three talented young singers (Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O\u2019Grady<\/strong>), who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the music industry. Variety states that the project has been described in the vein of \u201cDreamgirls,\u201d while incorporating the manufacturing of modern-day girl groups, showcasing the allure and heartache of the cut-throat music scene, and exploring cultural themes from a new perspective.<\/p>\n

Queen Latifah<\/strong> will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who has an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls in the group, even though she doesn\u2019t approve of their musical dreams.\u00a0The series will feature original music, along with musical fantasy sequences, as the girls dream of their future.\u00a0Benjamin Bratt<\/strong> and Nicholas Gonzalez<\/strong> co-star with Lenny Kravitz<\/strong> set to come on as a guest star.\u00a0Naomi Campbell will play Rose Spencer, the beautiful, wealthy and cultivated London-born mother of Ryan Destiny’s character, Alexandra.<\/p>\n

Tyrese Gibson plays\u00a0Pastor Bobby Harris, who presides over Carlotta\u2019s (Latifah) congregation, and is described as a handsome ex-thug who has turned his life over to God, as he begins a relationship with Carlotta (Latifah), the quasi-matriarch who looks over the show\u2019s 3 young leads. Their romance will be challenged on many fronts and which will ultimately create a crisis of faith for them both.<\/p>\n

\u201cStar\u201d is a production of 20th Century FOX Television in association with Lee Daniels Entertainment. Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy are the creators and executive producers of the series. Pamela Williams and Effie Brown also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n
