WGN America has released a new trailer, featuring John Legend’s new song ‘In America,’<\/strong> for the second-season premiere of its hit original drama series Underground<\/strong>, which will air on 10 PM Wednesday, March 8.<\/p>\n

The 10-episode Season 2 of Underground follows the struggle for freedom within a divided America on the brink of civil war, each side vying to enact their own justice. Set in the aftermath of the Macon 7\u2019s daring attempt to stage the greatest escape in history, this group of American heroes continues on their harrowing journey to freedom, with legendary abolitionist Tubman blazing the trail.<\/p>\n

The series returns cast members Jurnee Smollett-Bell<\/strong> (Rosalee), Aldis Hodge<\/strong> (Noah), Jessica de Gouw<\/strong> (Elizabeth Hawkes), Alano Miller\u200e<\/strong> (Cato), Amirah Vann<\/strong> (Ernestine) and Christopher Meloni.\u00a0Marc Blucas <\/strong>will continue guest-starring as John Hawkes.<\/p>\n

Aisha Hinds<\/strong> will have a recurring role as Harriet Tubman, along with Chris Chalk<\/strong> as abolitionist William Still and Sadie Stratton<\/strong> as the notorious slave trader Patty Cannon. Other new members of the cast include Jasika Nicole<\/strong> as Georgia, an abolitionist with a covert station along the Underground; DeWanda Wise<\/strong> as Clara, a preacher\u2019s daughter from an enslaved community;\u00a0Bokeem Woodbine<\/strong> as Daniel, a skilled stonemason, who has decided to take freedom into his own hands;\u00a0Michael Trotter<\/strong> as Biographer, an astute observer of people; Jesse Luken<\/strong> as Smoke, the second in command of an Patty Cannon’s infamous slave-catcher gang, and John Legend<\/strong> as Frederic Douglas.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderground\u201d was honored with four NAACP Image Awards nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Amirah Vann) and Outstanding Directing in a Dramatic Series \u00a0(Anthony Hemingway).<\/p>\n

Underground is created and written by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski<\/strong>, who serve as executive producers alongside Emmy-nominated director Anthony Hemingway<\/strong>, Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman<\/strong> (A Beautiful Mind) of Weed Road Pictures; Tory Tunnell<\/strong> (King Arthur, Holy Rollers) and Joby Harold<\/strong> (King Arthur, Edge of Tomorrow) of Safehouse Pictures; and Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius<\/strong> of Get Lifted Film Co; and Mark Taylor<\/strong> (MadTV).<\/p>\n
