Warner Bros. has released the trailer for its upcoming suspense thriller Geostorm<\/strong>, starring starring Gerard Butler<\/strong> (\u201cOlympus Has Fallen,\u201d \u201c300\u201d), Jim Sturgess<\/strong> (\u201cCloud Atlas\u201d), Abbie Cornish<\/strong> (\u201cLimitless\u201d), Alexandra Maria Lara<\/strong> (\u201cRush\u201d), Daniel Wu<\/strong> (\u201cThe Man with the Iron Fists,\u201d \u201cWarcraft: The Beginning\u201d), with Oscar nominees Ed Harris<\/strong> (\u201cThe Hours,\u201d \u201cApollo 13\u201d) and Andy Garcia<\/strong> (\u201cThe Godfather: Part III\u201d).<\/p>\n

After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world\u2019s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe.\u00a0 But now, something has gone wrong\u2014the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it\u2019s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything…and everyone along with it.<\/p>\n

Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program\u2019s malfunction.\u00a0 Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; with Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom.<\/p>\n

Dean Devlin<\/strong> (writer\/producer, \u201cIndependence Day\u201d) makes his feature film directorial debut with a script written by him & Paul Guyot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Also featured in the film are Adepero Oduye<\/strong> (\u201cThe Big Short,\u201d \u201c12 Years a Slave\u201d), Amr Waked<\/strong> (\u201cLucy,\u201d \u201cSyriana\u201d), Robert Sheehan<\/strong> (\u201cThe Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,\u201d \u201cSeason of the Witch\u201d) and Eugenio Derbez<\/strong> (\u201cInstructions Not Included\u201d).<\/p>\n

The film is being produced by Skydance\u2019s David Ellison<\/strong>, Devlin, and Skydance\u2019s Dana Goldberg<\/strong>.\u00a0 Herbert W. Gains<\/strong> and Electric Entertainment\u2019s Marc Roskin are the executive producers.\u00a0 Rachel Olschan<\/strong> of Electric Entertainment and Cliff Lanning<\/strong> co-produce.<\/p>\n

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Roberto Schaefer<\/strong> (\u201cFinding Neverland,\u201d \u201cQuantum of Solace\u201d), production designer Kirk M. Petruccelli<\/strong> (\u201cWhite House Down\u201d), costume designer Susan Matheson<\/strong> (\u201cThe Big Short,\u201d \u201cSafehouse\u201d) and VFX supervisor Jeffrey A. Pictures and Skydance presentation, \u201cGeostorm\u201d is a joint venture between Skydance and Electric Entertainment, Inc.\u00a0 Set to hit theaters October 20, 2017, it will be distributed in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX, by Warner Bros.
