\"\"<\/a>HBO has released the official trailer and poster to\u00a0the Oprah Winfrey vehical\u00a0\u201cThe Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks\u201d on\u00a0Saturday, April 22 at 8:00pm ET\/PT.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on Rebecca Skloot<\/strong>\u2019s best-seller, George C. Wolfe <\/strong>wrote the screenplay and directed the film. HBO picked up the rights to the film back in 2010.<\/p>\n

Winfrey will also serve as an exec producer on the film, along with Alan Ball, Peter Macdissi, Carla Gardini<\/strong> and Lydia Dean Pilcher<\/strong>. Skloot will serve as a co-exec producer.<\/p>\n

Co-starring with Winfrey will be Rose Byrne<\/strong> will play Skloot,\u00a0a young journalist who, in her efforts to tell the story of Henrietta Lacks and her \u201cimmortal\u201d cells, forms a close bond with Deborah, and Tony Award winner and “Hamilton” actress Ren\u00e9e Elise Goldsberry, <\/strong>who plays the title character. Other cast members include\u00a0Courtney B. Vance, Leslie Uggams, Rocky Carroll, Rose Byrne, Reg E. Cathey, Reed Birney, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, John Douglas Thompson, Adriane Lenox, Kyanna Simone Simpson<\/strong>\u00a0and Roger Robinson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cThe Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks\u201d tells the true story of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line. Told through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks, played by Winfrey, the film chronicles her search to learn about the mother she never knew and to understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks\u2019 cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever.<\/p>\n

In speaking with EW, Wolfe states, \u201cThe book connects the epic with the intimate, and that\u2019s the movie\u2019s ambition. This woman\u2019s cells helped heal the planet, yet her children were suffering. They didn\u2019t know their mother\u2019s story, even though they were living in the shadows of Johns Hopkins. I found that dichotomy incredibly moving.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Henrietta Lacks\u2019 sons Zakariyya Rahman<\/strong> and David Lacks, Jr.<\/strong> and granddaughter Jeri Lacksare <\/strong>serve as consultants on the HBO project.<\/p>\n
