TFF lines up a collision of gangster classics, hot topics and music icons for this year\u2019s film festival, and it\u2019s all going down on Facebook Live!<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been 16 years since the launch of the first Tribeca Film Festival<\/strong>, and this year the festival holds no punches.\u00a0 An exclusive screening line up which includes film classics, politics, fashion icons and music vets will screen throughout lower Manhattan.\u00a0 The festival kicks off with music doc:\u00a0Clive Davis: \u201cThe Soundtrack of our Lives\u201d<\/b>\u2014which screens at the legendary Radio City Music Hall, followed by a concert with Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Carly Simon and Earth, Wind and Fire.<\/p>\n

As the festival rolls out, each day gears up to be better than the last, and this year Tribeca has included Facebook live screenings, so that film buffs who couldn\u2019t make the festival can feel as if you\u2019re right here in New York City.\u00a0 From April 19 – 30th, here\u2019s my best picks for you:<\/p>\n

In the current moment of frequent mass shootings and ongoing legislative battles, 15 years after the film\u2019s release, Moore\u2019s confrontational documentary remains relevant as ever.<\/p>\n

LA92:\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0Few images are seared into the American consciousness like the beating of Rodney King at the hands of four white Los Angeles police officers and the riots after the officers\u2019 acquittal in the spring of 1992. The unrest, sparked by a verdict many viewed as yet another example of judicial indifference to law enforcement\u2019s harassment of Los Angeles\u2019s African American population, lasted for six days. The widespread looting, arson, and assaults were all captured by TV news and broadcast to a shocked nation. By the time the violence was quelled, more than fifty people had lost their lives and over $1 billion dollars in damage had been done to South Central Los Angeles and the surrounding neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

Twenty-five years after the verdict, Academy Award\u00ae-winning directors Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin (Undefeated) draw on archival news images and unseen footage to craft an in-depth portrait of those riots and the tempestuous relationship between Los Angeles\u2019s African American community and those charged with protecting it.\u00a0\u00a0A Conversation with Directors after the screening.<\/b><\/p>\n

Whitney Houston was a sure thing, or as sure as the music industry had ever seen. A transcendent talent with pedigree and mentorship to match, she was going to be the greatest female vocalist ever. For a time, she was, and then she all-too-publicly fell short.<\/p>\n

Documentarian Nick Broomfield and iconic music video director Rudi Dolezal offer a never-before-seen backstage look at the height of Houston\u2019s stardom and trace with penetrating detail the forces that contributed to her shortened career and subsequent death in 2012, at age 48. Whether it be racism, religion, drugs, sexuality, self-doubt, gossip, rivalry, insufficient training, the demands of parents and the industry, a troubled marriage playing out in headlines, or the inevitable toll those stresses take from so muscular and passionate a singer, the directors leave nothing unturned. Twenty-five years ago, auteur filmmaker Quentin Tarantino reinvigorated cinema with his singular voice in his canonical feature\u00a0Reservoir Dogs<\/i>.
