According to Deadline<\/a>, with a strong showing\u00a0in France and debuting in other countries this weekend,\u00a0Jordan Peele<\/strong>\u2019s horror thriller \u2018Get Out\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0has crossed the $200M mark at the worldwide box office.<\/p>\n

The film has taken in\u00a0$173.8M<\/strong>\u00a0domestically and\u00a0$30.5M <\/strong>from\u00a0overseas for a total of\u00a0$204.3M\u00a0<\/strong>through Sunday, with more markets yet to release.\u00a0The Universal and Blumhouse\u00a0film\u00a0is $3 million away from passing the record for highest grossing debut for a black director, which was set by Clark Johnson\u2019s \u201cS.W.A.T.\u201d in 2003 with $207.7M.<\/p>\n

It’s already the\u00a0highest grossing film debut for a writer-director with an original screenplay.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With a production cost $4.6M, the film took in $34 million in its opening weekend (February 24). In its 3rd weekend, Jordan became the first African American writer\/director to earn $100 million in his debut film.<\/a><\/p>\n

Recently, it was announced that\u00a0Peele\u00a0will write, direct and produce an untitled social thriller under a two-year deal he signed with Universal Pictures. The studio has also signed Peele to a first-look overall production deal with his Monkeypaw Productions banner.<\/p>\n

Along with F. Gray Gray’s The Fate of the Furious<\/strong>, Universal Pictures has two films from 2017 directed by African Americans that have crossed over $200M. ‘Furious’ has blown everyone out of the water with its billion dollar gross and still growing.<\/p>\n

Peele is also part of a handful of Black directors who have had $200M grossing films.<\/p>\n

Get Out centers on Chris (Daniel Kaluuya), a black man who has been dating a white girl, Rose Armitage (Allison Williams), who has yet to tell her parents about his race. When she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with her folks Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford), little does Chris know what he’s in for once gets there and the racial tension is more than he expected.<\/p>\n
