Schedule to make its U.S Premiere this week at the 2017 Urbanworld Film Festival<\/strong> is director\u00a0Ernest Dickerson<\/strong>\u00a0(Juice, The Wire)’s upcoming drama,\u00a0Double Play,\u00a0<\/strong>which is based on the\u00a0novel of the same name\u00a0by Cura\u00e7aoan author Frank Martinus Arion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It plays this Friday 9\/22 at 8pm, at the AMC Empire 25, 234 W 42ND Street (between 7th & 8th Avenues).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film had its\u00a0world premiere this past\u00a0January at the\u00a0International Film Festival Rotterdam<\/strong> (IFFR).<\/p>\n

The film stars Lennie James<\/strong> (The Walking Dead), Colin Salmon<\/strong> (London Has Fallen), Alexander Karim<\/strong> (Zero Dark Thirty) Isaach De Bankol\u00e9<\/strong> (Casino Royale) and Mustafa Shakir<\/strong> (Quarry, HBO\u2019s The Night Of), Academy Award and Emmy winner Louis Gossett Jr.<\/strong> (An Officer and a Gentleman, Roots), Melanie Liburd<\/strong> (Game of Thrones), Saycon Sengbloh<\/strong> (Tony Nominee for “Eclipsed”), Bronson Pinchot<\/strong> (True Romance) and newcomer Dani Dare (NCIS New Orleans). Jay Wadley<\/strong> (Indignation ) composed the score. The film also includes a stellar performance of classic songs performed by Aymee Nuviola<\/strong> (Celia).<\/p>\n

The screenplay was written by Evan Jones and Alaric Alexander Smeets<\/strong>. Lisa Cort\u00e9s<\/strong> and Gregory Elias<\/strong> produced. Says Cort\u00e9s, \u201cIt was a great privilege to work with an incredible international cast and crew to bring this classic novel to the screen. It’s now especially important to tell inspiring stories that uncover unique and diverse voices that speak to following one’s dreams even amidst the most challenging of circumstances.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Set in 1973 and 2010, Double Play is the story of Ostrik (Salmon)\u2019s return to his childhood home, and the memory of a fateful day more than 40 years prior. Over the course of that day, and a long-standing game of dominoes, the fates of four men (James, Karim, De Bankol\u00e9, and Shakir) are revealed through a journey of love, loss and deadly betrayal. Shot on location in Curacao, the film utilized its surroundings by emphasizing the beauty of the landscape, the music and the people.<\/p>\n

The film has yet to be picked up for US Distribution.<\/p>\n
