Rees\u2019 Mudbound will be released November 17.<\/p>\n<p>In An Uncivil War, Rees takes on the explosive battle to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, which rallied feminist icon Gloria Steinem and legendary lawyer\/activist Florynce \u201cFlo\u201d Kennedy, and other leaders of the Women\u2019s movement to action against conservative organizer Phyllis Schlafly. The film deals with timely themes of equality and social change. Rees rewrote the original script by David Kukoff. FilmNation Entertainment is fully financing, and is producing the film alongside Peter Heller. FilmNation, VP of Development Ashley Fox will oversee on behalf of the company.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Director-Dee-Rees-at-the-2017-Essence-Festival.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-expand=\"600\" class=\"lazyload alignright size-medium wp-image-102107\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;charset=utf-8,%3Csvg xmlns%3D'http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg' viewBox%3D'0 0 300 240'%2F%3E\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.blackfilm.com\/read\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Director-Dee-Rees-at-the-2017-Essence-Festival-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI\u2019m particularly interested in digging into the messiness of the women\u2019s movement\u2013the many different alliances that were formed and fractured and exploring who got left behind vs who got remembered,\u201d<\/strong> said Rees. <strong>\u201cThe richness and texture of this story lie in the complicated bargains struck and broken in the imperfect, stuttering trajectory toward equality.
