Sony Pictures has released the first clip to\u00a0<\/strong>writer-director\u00a0Dan Gilroy<\/strong>\u2019s legal thriller,\u00a0“Roman J. Israel, Esq.,” <\/strong>starring Denzel Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will hit limited theaters on November 17 and go wide on November 22.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Previously known as “Inner City,”\u00a0<\/strong>the cast also includes\u00a0Colin Farrell, <\/strong>Carmen Ejogo, Nazneen Contractor, Joseph David-Jones ,\u00a0<\/em>DeRon Horton,\u00a0Lynda Gravatt, Amanda Warren, Shelley Hennig, Hugo Armstrong, Sam Gilroy, Tony Plana, and Amari Cheatom.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roman J. Israel, Esq. is set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when his mentor, a civil rights icon, dies. When he is recruited to join a firm led by one of the legendary man\u2019s former students \u2013 the ambitious lawyer George Pierce (Colin Farrell) \u2013 and begins a friendship with a young champion of equal rights (Carmen Ejogo), a turbulent series of events ensue that will put the activism that has defined Roman\u2019s career to the test.<\/p>\n
