Currently playing on Netflix is Marvel\u2019s The Punisher<\/strong>, starring Jon Bernthal<\/strong> as Frank Castle.<\/p>\n

Bernthal is reprising his role as Frank Castle from Marvel\u2019s Daredevil and he\u2019s joined by newcomers Ben Barnes<\/strong> as Billy Russo (the civilian name of the villain Jigsaw), Frank\u2019s Castle\u2019s best friend from his days in the Special Forces who runs a successful private military corporation called \u201cAnvil;\u201d Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/strong> as Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them; and Amber Rose Revah<\/strong>\u00a0as Dinah Madani; a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Also in the cast are Daniel Webber<\/strong> as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society; Jason R. Moore\u00a0<\/strong>as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle\u2019s and one of the few people who knows he is alive; Paul Schulze<\/strong>\u00a0as Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle; Jaime Ray Newman<\/strong> plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro\u2019s wife whose marriage has made her life far more complicated; and Michael Nathanson<\/strong>\u00a0as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s The Punisher is part of an overall deal between Marvel Television and Netflix, which has already released the critically-acclaimed seasons of Marvel\u2019s Daredevil, Marvel\u2019s Jessica Jones and Marvel\u2019s Luke Cage, and Marvel\u2019s Iron Fist. All the heroes have now also united in the mini-series event Marvel\u2019s The Defenders.<\/p>\n

For Moore, this is his biggest role to date, in terms of visibility. While he’s been working for a number of years, appearing in guest spots on various TV shows, playing a Marvel character from the books has an advantage over his previous roles.<\/p>\n

He spoke exclusively with Blackfilm.com about getting the role and being part of the Marvel world.<\/p>\n

How did the role come about for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> Through the normal process. I auditioned. Of course, when you do a Marvel project, you don’t know what you are going in for. They give everything a codename. You won’t know until you get further along. Then I got a call back and things picked up and here I am.<\/p>\n

How would you best describe Curtis Hoyle?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> Well, Curtis Hoyle is in the comic books. He’s in the first edition. He’s really good friends with Frank Castle. They both served in the armed forces and now Curtis is a soldier who has been acclomated back into society and living a normal life. He’s also going through his own PTSD problems. He has a job where he helps other soldiers adjust to being in a normal society. He’s there to help the other characters in the show. He’s like the voice of reason or the moral compass.<\/p>\n

Marvel’s The Punisher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Did you know anything about the Punisher and is there a difference between Curtis from the comic books and the screen version?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> The biggest difference is that Curtis is a white guy in the comics and I’m a black guy. I didn’t know much about the world of the Punisher but more about the character. He was the anti-hero and he handled his problems a lot different than the other heroes. He was one the real characters that I grew up with because he didn’t have any super powers. Those were some of the things that jumped out at me in terms of the Punisher.<\/p>\n

Were you a Marvel fan growing up and have you watched the other adaptations on TV and film?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> As a child growing up in America, there’s no way you could escape not getting caught up in that Marvel universe because it was on TV with the cartoons. You had the X-Men and the Hulk was always one of my favorites along with Iron Man and the rest. I read comic books growing up. With the films, I’ve watched all of them because of what I knew and remembered growing up. All of those films gives you that childhood feelings again. Now that I’m older, I’m more inclined to the grittiness of some of the characters and Daredevil is one of them.<\/p>\n

Curtis is walking around with a prosthetic leg, so did you do any research into that or was just CGI?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> I did do some research on the psyche of guys coming back from the war and what they experienced mentally I got to speak with some vets on how being disabled affected their minds. When you lose a part of your body, there’s some trauma that goes along with the pain and some of those guys were able to convey their experiences on that with me. They also talked to me about the healing process. That’s what I took with me when portraying Curtis. How does one move when they don’t have a leg, and while there’s CGI involved, you can’t really tell on screen. As an actor, I didn’t have walk on a limp thanks to technology. When the prosthetic leg is on, I can maintain my natural walk.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

How was working with Jon, Ben and the rest of the cast?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> It was great. I know everyone says that, but this is truly a great cast to work with. I didn’t get to work with a lot of the other characters but I got to hang out with them and they are good people. They are real artists in a sense. They are not actors in Hollywood; they are artists. Jon (Bernthal) is an excellent leader on set. He’s an actor’s actor. His unselfish leadership is contagious and is a supporting actor as well. Ben is a gracious Brit. Really fun to work with in terms of his craft. I come from an old school approach to acting where you can go there with your emotion and working with these actors was great.<\/p>\n

Where will we see you next?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason R. Moore:<\/strong> I will be on BET’s The Quad for season 2. I have a nice character arc there with Anika Noni Rose.<\/p>\n
