Empire Magazine<\/a> has release the subscriber\u2019s cover to their upcoming February 2018 issue which displays a\u00a0Black Panther<\/strong> layout, designed by the\u00a0production designer for the film, Hannah Beachler<\/strong> (Creed<\/strong>,\u00a0Lemonade<\/strong>, Moonlight<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Directed by\u00a0Ryan Coogler<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cCreed,\u201d \u201cFruitvale Station\u201d) from a screenplay he co-wrote with\u00a0Joe Robert Cole,<\/strong>\u00a0Marvel Studios will release the film\u00a0in U.S. theaters on February 16, 2018.<\/p>\n

The cast includes\u00a0Chadwick Boseman<\/strong>,\u00a0Michael B. Jordan,<\/strong>\u00a0Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/strong>,\u00a0Danai Gurira<\/strong>,\u00a0Martin Freeman<\/strong>,\u00a0Sterling K. Brown,<\/strong>\u00a0Daniel Kaluuya<\/strong>,\u00a0Angela Bassett,\u00a0<\/strong>Forest Whitaker<\/strong>, Andy Serkis<\/strong>,\u00a0Letitia Wright<\/strong>,\u00a0Winston Duke,<\/strong>\u00a0Florence Kasumba<\/strong>,\u00a0Shaunette Ren\u00e9e Wilson<\/strong>,\u00a0Isaach de Bankol\u00e9,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0John Kani<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman): “He has to keep harmony between the tribes within his country, and that means managing expectations and doing things that are unpopular,\u201d Coogler says. \u201cAt the same time, he is the protector of that nation,” said Coogler.<\/p>\n

Ramonda (Anglea Bassett): “She is one of the advisors that he would look to,\u201d Boseman says. \u201cHe has to look to her for some of the answers of what his father might want or might do. She may not be exactly right all the time, but she definitely has insights.\u00a0She is the queen mother. And she\u2019s that for not just him, but for everybody. She has her hands in everything \u2014 even his love life,” said Boseman.<\/p>\n

Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o):<\/strong> Here, she’s described as a “former lover” of T’Challa’s.\u00a0She is a departure from what she was in the comic book,\u201d Nyong\u2019o says.\u00a0\u201cNakia is a war dog. She is basically an undercover spy for Wakanda. Her job is to go out into the world and report back on what\u2019s going on,” said Nyong’o.<\/p>\n

Okoye (Danai Gurira):<\/strong> The head of the Dora Milaje, she’s just as close as family. \u00a0\u201cThey are a very powerful force. They are not utopic, but what Wakanda has down well is it has allowed people to function within their strengths. These women, their strength is to preserve Wakanda. It\u2019s more like the secret service in a sense that it\u2019s not just military. She is head of intel,” said Gurira.<\/p>\n

Shuri (Letitia Wright):<\/strong> Princess of Wakanda who designs their technology and is fierce in battle. \u201cShe is\u00a0also a genius and runs the entire Wakandan design group. She\u2019s responsible for all these amazing technological advances that Vibranium has brought about from Wakanda,” said Kevin Feige, Marvel president and main architect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).<\/p>\n

Erik Kilmonger (Michael B. Jordan):<\/strong> “I think Killmonger has his own opinion on how Wakanda has been run and should run, and what I think Michael brings to the table is sort of a charming antagonist, who doesn\u2019t agree with how T\u2019Challa is running things, frankly. I think that puts T\u2019Challa in a difficult situation.\u00a0Killmonger is a voice of a different side of Wakanda,” said EP Nate Moore.<\/div>\n

W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluyya):<\/strong> Head of security for the Border Tribe, another important group in Wakanda. He’s also T’Challa’s best friend. He helps maintain Wakanda’s guise of being “just mines, farms and woods.” “They live on the borders of Wakanda and serve as the first line of defense for the country.\u00a0To outsiders they appear to be what people would \u2018expect\u2019 of a small provincial African nation \u2013 but the truth is they are some of the fiercest warriors in Wakanda, intent on protecting the secrets of their advanced nation at all costs,” said Moore. When T’Challa becomes kind, W’Kabi joins him as a palace advisor.<\/div>\n

\u00a0Zuri (Forest Whitaker):<\/strong> A longtime advisor to T’Challa’s father and keeper of the heart-shaped herb. “He\u2019s somewhat a religious figure or spiritual figure. Spirituality is something that exists in Wakanda in the comics, and it\u2019s something we wanted to have elements of in the film. Forest\u2019s character, more than anything, is a major tie-back to T\u2019Challa\u2019s father. Zuri is someone he looks to for guidance,” said Coogler.<\/div>\n

Coogler\u2019s creative brain trust includes his frequent collaborators: director of photography\u00a0Rachel Morrison<\/strong>, A.S.C. Carter<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cSelma,\u201d Lee Daniels\u2019 \u201cThe Butler\u201d), visuals effects supervisor\u00a0Geoffrey Baumann<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cDoctor Strange,\u201d \u201cAvengers: Age of Ultron\u201d), Academy Award\u00ae- winning makeup designer\u00a0Joel Harlow<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cStar Trek Beyond,\u201d \u201cBlack Mass\u201d) and seven-time Academy Award\u00ae nominee, special effects supervisor\u00a0Dan Sudick<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cCaptain America: Civil War,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers\u201d).<\/p>\n
