At the 2018 EssenceFest, Annapurna Pictures\u2019 If Beale Street Could Talk<\/strong> cast members Regina King, Stephan James<\/strong> and Kiki Layne<\/strong>, alongside Academy Award-winning Beale Street and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins<\/strong> came on stage to show audiences an exclusive look at clips from the film followed by a Q&A moderated by Essence magazine\u2019s Entertainment Director Cori Murray<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The cast of the film includes\u00a0Kiki Layne,\u00a0Stephan James, Teyonah Parris, Regina King, Colman Domingo,\u00a0Brian Tyree Henry, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein, Michael Beach,\u00a0Aunjanue Ellis and Finn Wittrock and Diego Luna.<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Based on the novel by James Baldwin<\/strong>, \u201cIf Beale Street Could Talk,\u201d follows Tish (Layne), a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover\u2019s innocence while carrying their first born child.\u00a0The movie is a celebration of love told through the story of a young couple, their families, and their lives.<\/p>\n

James plays Fonny, Tish\u2019s fiance, while\u00a0Parris will play Tish\u2019s streetwise sister, Ernestine, who is determined to help her future brother-in-law\u00a0prove his innocence. King will play\u00a0Tish’s mother, Sharon.\u00a0Domingo will play Joseph, Tish\u2019s fiercely loving father who makes his daughter\u2019s crusade his own.\u00a0Henry will play Daniel Carty, a friend of Fonny (James).\u00a0Ellis and Beach are Alice and Frank Hunt, the parents of Fonny.<\/p>\n

Luna will play Pedrocito, a friend of Fonny and\u00a0the guy who works in the Spanish restaurant.<\/p>\n

The movie marks Jenkins\u2019 first production with Annapurna and a reunion of \u201cMoonlight\u2019s\u201d producing team with PASTEL and Plan B.\u00a0 \u201cMoonlight\u201d won the 2016 Best Picture Oscar and Best Adapted Screenplay, which Jenkins shared with co-writer Tarell Alvin McCraney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
