The film will shoot on locations in New Zealand and China and will open in U.S. theaters on March 27, 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liu Yifei (<\/strong>\u201cThe Forbidden Kingdom,\u201d \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u201d) was cast as Hua Mulan following a year-long global casting search. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China\u2019s greatest warriors ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMulan\u201d is directed by <strong>Niki Caro<\/strong> (\u201cWhale Rider,\u201d \u201cMcFarland USA\u201d) from a screenplay by <strong>Rick Jaffa &amp; Amanda Silver<\/strong> (\u201cJurassic World,\u201d \u201cIn the Heart of the Sea\u201d) and <strong>Elizabeth Martin &amp; Lauren Hynek<\/strong> based on the narrative poem \u201cThe Ballad of Mulan.\u201d The producers are Jason T. Reed (\u201cTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles\u201d), Chris Bender (\u201cA History of Violence\u201d) and Jake Weiner (\u201cCriminal\u201d) with Barrie M.
