Halle Berry, Lena Waithe Team To Produce ‘Boomerang<\/a>‘ Sequel As A Series For BET<\/strong>Posted by Wilson Morales<\/p>\n

Oscar winner Halle Berry<\/strong> and Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe<\/strong> are teaming up to be executive producers on BET<\/strong>\u2019s small screen sequel to the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang<\/a>,<\/strong> which starred Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens<\/strong> and Berry<\/strong> herself.<\/p>\n

BET Networks and Paramount Television produced the 10-episode half-hour series, which is set to drop next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right,\u201d<\/strong> Berry said in a statement Monday. \u201cI\u2019m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story,\u201d<\/strong> added Waithe. \u201cThere\u2019s no point in trying to remake a classic.\u00a0It can\u2019t be done. The original was directed by Reginald Hudlin<\/a><\/strong> and had Murphy playing Marcus Graham, a high-powered ad exec who\u2019s the classic ladies\u2019 man. Debonair and a chauvinist, Marcus believes he has to keep bedding women until he\u2019s found the right one to settle with. When he meets and wants the beautiful Jacqueline Broyer (Robin Givens), who also happens to be his boss, little does he know that she\u2019s exactly like him. It\u2019s a game of cat and mouse, with Marcus desperately looking for love in the wrong places…until he finds it with his good friend Angela (Berry).<\/p>\n

The series will focus on the modern-day offspring of Berry and Murphy\u2019s characters and the role that Givens played. The opener for the series will be co-written by The Chi creator Waithe and Ben Cory Jones<\/strong>. Having produced the Netflix pic Step Sisters<\/strong> with Waithe, Underground<\/strong> and Insecure<\/strong> scribe Jones will be the showrunner and an EP on the new Boomerang, which was first announced earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Chi vet Dime Davis<\/strong> is set to direct the pilot for BET\u2019s Boomerang, with Rishi Rajani<\/strong> of Waithe\u2019s Hillman Grad Productions also on board as an EP.<\/p>\n
