If you love political and intellectual thrillers, you’ll love the twists, turns, intrigue and suspense that drive 88.
88 made its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, June 11th. The film stars Brandon Victor Dixon, Naturi Naughton, Orlando Jones, Thomas Sadoski, William Fichtner and Amy Sloan and is executive produced by media mogul Lenard “Charlamagne Tha God” McKelvey.

The intense drama centers around Femi Jackson portrayed by Brandon Victor Dixon (Power, She’s Gotta Have It, Rent: Live), a family man and extremely thorough financial director for One USA, a democratic super PAC (political action committee). One USA is purposed with electing presidential candidate Harold Roundtree (Orlando Jones of Drumline, The Good Lord Bird, The Orlando Jones Show fame) who is campaigning to be the nations second Black POTUS. Jackson discovers unusual patterns in donations and enlists friend and investment blogger Ira Goldstein (Thomas Sadoski, known for John Wick, Life in Pieces and Broadway’s Reckless) to dig deeper. Together they uncover an unbelievable conspiracy. New but seasoned One USA Deputy Executive Director Fred Fowlkes (Michael J. Harney, Orange is the New Black, Weeds) wants to act upon learning of the conspiracy, while One USA Head Agatha Frost (Amy Sloan, The Day After Tomorrow, The Aviator) remains hesitant. Talk show host Ron Holt (William Fichtner, Mom, the film Crash), in the meantime, drills Roundtree in a live television interview, pressing him on campaign finance reform, Citizens United, and more. Roundtree is deft at dodging tough questions even in the face of damning evidence. Femi and Ira continue to follow the campaign money trail back to nefarious and racist roots and work to uncover the truth before the presidential primaries.
Excellent performances from Brandon Victor Dixon as well as Power’s darling Naturi Naughton. I’ve always liked Orlando Jones and felt he was overlooked and underrated. He has matured as an actor and is believable in this role as an unsavory presidential candidate.

The cinematography of the project has an interesting retro feel with purposefully muted coloring. The soundtrack is also retro and reminiscent of TV dramas of the 70s to me.
88 marks director Eromose third time at the Tribeca Film Festival. 88 is executive produced by Charlamagne Tha God, host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club and the Comedy Central TV show The God’s Honest Truth. 88 captures the cultural zeitgeist of government mistrust and institutional racism in this compelling thriller.
