Tribeca Talks and Blackhouse Foundation Partner on Five In-person Conversations Celebrating BIPOC Filmmakers at this Year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
The Tribeca Film Festival partnered once again this year with the Blackhouse Foundation in their effort to celebrate BIPOC filmmakers and amplify the richness of Black stories. In celebration of Juneteenth, Blackhouse presented five thought-provoking in-person panel discussions designed to uplift the voices of Black storytellers.
The Blackhouse Foundation was founded in 2007 to expand career opportunities for Black multi-platform content creators and executives within film, television, digital, and emerging platforms.

Here is a breakdown of the panels presented this year from Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse:
Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse Present: Black Critics on the State of Representation Onscreen.
A powerhouse panel of Black critics, all Pulitizer prize winners, convened to discuss current and historical Black representation onscreen and beyond. Panelists included Robin Givhan, Margo Jefferson, Wesley Morris, and Salamishah Tillet. Moderated by returning Tribeca collaborator Jelani Cobb.

Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse Present: Unpacking the Ethics & Art of Film Curation: A Conversation with the Programmers of Colour Collective.
Members of the Programmers Of Colour Collective discussed the nuances and responsibilities of the film curation process, digging into challenges they have experienced, and identifying values and principles that could be applied by any organization or festival striving to connect authentically with the communities they serve. Moderated by Tribeca Associate Programmer Shakira Refos with Panelists: Faridah Gdadamosi, Cedar Sherbert, Jeanelle Augustin, CR Capers.

Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse Present: An Act of Worship & the Perspective of Community Storytellers.
This panel discussed why it’s important to have storytellers from marginalized communities, who can provide a perspective through their lived experience, and disrupt harmful narratives that impact their communities. Also explored was the film An Act of Worship from Pakistani filmmaker Nausheen Dadabhoy. Panelists included: Nausheen Dadabhoy, Hamza Syed, Kameelah Mu’min Rashad, Aber Kawas.
Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse Present: Filmmaking and Activism: From Civil Rights to Reparations.
Conversation with film co-directors Whitney Dow and Erika Alexander (The Big Payback) and Yoruba Richen and Johanna Hamilton (The Rebellious Life of Mrs Rosa Parks). Topics to include reparations, filmmaking as a tool for policy change, Black/white co-directing teams. Moderated by Blackhouse Foundation founder Brickson Diamond.

Tribeca Talks x Blackhouse Present: Ben Crump and the Movement for Social Justice.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and documentary filmmakers Nadia Hallgren and producer/creator Kenya Barris join Rashad Robinson, President of Color of Change in conversation about the current state of racial justice in our society. Moderated by Blackhouse Foundation founder Brickson Diamond.
