Scarface Blu-ray Release Partyby Damien Smith
August 24, 2011
Last night, Blackfilm.com attended the the 30th anniversary and Special Limited edition Blu-Ray DVD release party for SCARFACE.
Scarface is the Rags to Riches story of Cuban drug lord Tony Montana, his rise to power, his ultra-violent drug cartel and demise. This is the film that set the standard for all “Gangster” genre films that followed. It spawned a list of catch phrases such as “In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women,” “I always tell the truth, even when I lie,” and “Say goodnight to the bad guy.” It also launched a chain of video games, and clothing ventures.
The night included authentic Cuban cuisine, hand rolled cigars, and powdered sugar in plastic bags that resembled cocaine to put on top of the desserts on every table.
The highlights of the evening were the cast reunion and panel discussion with Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, F. Murray Abraham, Robert Loggia, and producer Martin Bregman. To conclude the night there was an hour-long performance by rapper/actor Ludacris.
The ultra-luxe Blu-ray version of SCARFACE will be a limited-edition of 1,000, featuring a documentary called The Scarface Phenomenon, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, excerpts of the video game, and special features, such as a scorecard that tracks profanity and the multitude of bullets shot.
