David Oyelowo has been cast in J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year, joining Oscar Isaac and his co-star from The Help, Jessica Chastain.
The Hollywood Reporter states that production will commence this week as A24 Films has already secured U.S. rights, and is planning to release the movie this fall or winter, positioning it for a potential awards run.
A Most Violent Year is set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history. The story revolves around an American immigrant (Isaac) and his wife (Chastain) trying to expand their business as violence and corruption threaten to destroy all they have built.
Participant Media and Image Nation Abu Dhabi are co-financing the film, with Before the Door’s Neal Dodson and Washington Square Films’ Anna Gerb producing alongside Chandor (Dodson and Gerb also produced Chandor’s All Is Lost and Margin Call).
Oyelowo recently starred opposite Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. His upcoming films include Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and the Nina Simone film ‘Nina’ with Zoe Saldana.
