Deadline is reporting that rapper-actor DMX has joined the cast of the upcoming indie film, ‘Pimp,’ written and directed by Christine Crokos.
Already set in the cast are Keke Palmer, Haley Ramm, Aunjanue Ellis, Edi Gathegi, Vanessa Morgan and newcomer Paola Lazaro.
The site states that the film looks at life for women on the streets of New York amidst the hustles and dangers facing those working in the illegal sex trade. Pimp revolves around the character Wednesday (Palmer), who is in a relationship with a woman that she has grown up with, and decides to be a pimp. She soon realizes that in order for her and her girlfriend to obtain a better life, she has to make far more money than she is currently making. With this in mind, Wednesday decides to steal a beautiful woman from a major pimp in the neighborhood, and winds up making more money than she anticipated. She gets caught up in the “pimp life,” and decides to pimp her own girlfriend; however, problems arise when her girlfriend fails to make as much money as the other woman.
Ellis will be playing “Gloria Ray”, mother to one of the young girls in the story. Gathegi will play a hard-core boxer-turned-pimp named Kenny Wayne. Morgan appears as a stripper who causes a rift between the two lead characters.
Alexis Varouxakis of 1821 Pictures and Adrenaline Entertainment is producing, along with Victoria Bousis, with Charlie Dibe co-producing. Corey Large, Nick Garyfalmmos, Bader Alghanim, Gina Saracino and Gary Ousdahl are executive producing.
Although he’s appeared in numerous indie film, DMX’s best film were in ‘Never Die Alone,’ ‘Cradle 2 The Grave,’ ‘Exit Wounds,’ and ‘Romeo Must Die.’
